Job Summary: The Recovery Specialist provides direct support to individuals seeking recovery from Substance Use Disorders and collaborates with the team to ensure the day-to-day operations of the program. The Recovery Specialist contributes to Bay Cove's mission by supporting individuals in their recovery journey to recovery and wellness.

This is a non-exempt position.

Essential Functions of Position:



  • Provide supportive care to meet individuals' needs and ensure a welcoming environment that promotes dignity and respect.
  • Conducting searches of belongings utilizing trauma informed practices upon admission, at discharge, and as otherwise directed by the leadership team.
  • Observe the wellbeing of individuals throughout shifts, conduct and document wellness checks at the assigned intervals, and respond to any observed changes in wellbeing per agency protocol.
  • Observe and document self-administration of medications in adherence with programmatic medication policies and procedures.
  • Promote participation in wellness and educational activities, and assist in the facilitation of recreational activities, under the guidance of the clinical team.
  • Participate in the general cleanliness and upkeep duties of the program, assist in meal preparation and clean up, and prepare rooms for new admissions as assigned.
  • Promptly report any safety, security, or maintenance issues to program leadership.
  • Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques when necessary, including providing overdose prevention and rescue as needed.
  • Complete assigned documentation (shift reports, checklists, and incident reports) in a concise and timely manner in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, supervision, and related professional development sessions and complete all required training.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.


Requirements for the position:



  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
  • Six months experience in health and human service-related field preferred, preferably working with those with co-occurring behavioral health and substance use disorders.
  • Flexibility to work weekends on a scheduled basis, and as-needed with reasonable notice when available.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and committed to adhere to, federal and state policies (42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA) within one week of hire and prior to provision of direct services.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, & boundaries.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency in word processing and other computer functions using Windows, Word, and Google Email and Apps.

Physical Requirements



  • Frequent interaction with providers, colleagues, persons served, and visitors requiring the employee to communicate, as well as detect and interpret information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, occasionally during emergency situations.
  • Frequent communication of accurate information, instructions, and ideas so others will understand.
  • Bending to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment up to twenty (20) pounds.
  • Frequent movement throughout the program, including up and down multiple flights of stairs, to access, obtain, or distribute supplies (sometimes pushing or pulling equipment), conduct wellness checks, interact with persons served, etc.
  • Undertake lifesaving efforts by conducting CPR via the provision of chest compressions and rescue breathing as needed until relieved by medical professionals.
  • Remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time, as needed.
