Our California Active Consulting team in LA County, CA is currently recruiting for a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) to assist providers of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities/Behavioral Health (IDD/BH) services in Regional Center's provider network who support persons with IDD/BH in crisis and at high risk of disruption in placement. The CADC is responsible for the assessment, treatment planning, care coordination and delivery of substance use treatment and education to individuals identified as experiencing substance misuse, abuse or dependence.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provide face-to-face or virtual coaching and training with family members, caregivers, and DSP staff of participating IDD/BH providers.
  • Assist agency staff with development, implementation, and monitoring of clinical Treatment Plans (or equivalent behavior support plan) including coaching on skill development, data collection, and fidelity checks.
  • Develop personalized treatment plans for individuals, based on their specific strengths, capabilities, resources, supports, needs and goals.
  • Model positive behavioral supports and respond to emergency situations as trained.
  • Perform substance use assessment through direct interview, collateral interview, completion of evidence-based tools, review of available assessments, diagnostic impressions and treatment history and other means as appropriate to the individual.
  • Participate in provider wraparound or consultation meetings by reporting assessment results and offering rationale for best practice recommendations in areas of expertise.
  • Provide crisis assessment, de-escalation and support to the individual and teams as required.
  • Complete all documentation as expected in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Program Director, Program Manager and other team members on individual and provider support activities.
  • Attend all agency, departmental, and client-specific meetings as directed
  • Report any suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation to supervisor or department director and to appropriate state authorities as required by state rules and regulations.
  • Comply with all organization standards to assure the health, safety, and confidentiality of all individuals.
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions to foster peer support and provide a safe space for individuals to share their experiences.
  • Educate individuals, their families, caregivers and other professionals about the effects of substance abuse, the process of recovery, and available resources

  • Knowledge of substance abuse treatment modalities and evidence-based practices
  • Experience in conducting assessments and developing treatment plans
  • Familiarity with legal and ethical requirements related to substance abuse counseling
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport and create a supportive therapeutic environment
  • Empathy and compassion to understand and address the emotional challenges faced by individuals with substance abuse issues
  • Strong active listening skills to effectively understand individual's concerns and provide appropriate guidance
  • Knowledge of various therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Associate's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Certification or licensure as an: Addiction Treatment Counselor, Substance Use Disorder Counselor, or Alcohol Drug Counselor as required by state regulations
  • Two years' experience working with individuals with behavioral health diagnoses
  • Valid BLS CPR and Basic First Aid certification:
  • Crisis de-escalation verbal skills and physical management training certificate, i.e., Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI).
  • Maintain valid driver's license and auto insurance.
  • Must be computer literates

Preferred:

  • Fluent bilingual speaker in one or more of the following languages: (English/Spanish; English/Mandarin; English/Korean; English/Tagalog).
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related field from an accredited college or university
  • One year of experience working with individuals with IDD diagnoses
