Responsibilities:


  • Provide direct support to all program individuals and responsible for assuring support is present at all times.
  • Provide First Aide, CPR, and/or medication administration assistance as needed to program individuals ensuring proper documentation of all injuries and accidents. Maintain a discipline and safe working environment by teaching and practicing safe work habits and enforcing safety policies and procedures. Responsible for reporting/correcting violations.
  • Acts as a Mandated Reporter as defined by the State of Virginia.
  • Maintain individual rights, advocacy, and confidentiality of individuals protected health information as required by HIPAA in all aspects of job duties and performance.
  • Provide program services to meet individual needs, desires and wants. Develop and teach life skills training classes and community outings for individuals based on individual's feedback.
  • Responsible for the individualized provision of services to individuals enrolled in Group Day, Community Engagement, or Community Coaching services. Services may include but are not limited to the development of individualized community-based activities for those individuals receiving Community Engagement and Community Coaching services. This may include the position spending periods of times of 3 hours or more in the community on a daily basis.
  • Will provide safe and reliable transportation from facility to the designated community sites for individuals using a company vehicle.
  • When transporting individuals, the employee is expected to abide by all federal, state, and local laws and regulations while operating a motor vehicle.
  • Manage individual files in accordance with GIV records management policy and current regulations as provided by the Department of Medical Assistance (DMAS), the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), and Office of Licensure.
  • Participate in GIV meetings, trainings events, and/or community activities as needed and requested.
  • Provide program services to meet individual needs, wants and desires.
  • Responsible for the individuals and their production tasks, responsible for all aspects of training and one-on-one assistance if required. Judgment to be made determining effective skill levels of individuals as it relates to job assignment, whether operating in Center or Community Based programs.
  • Complete weekly summaries and skill building notes of progress for assigned caseload. Written documentation such as daily activity logs and individual's outcomes, continuation notes, and other pertinent documentations are to be completed as required with Medicaid Regulations and in compliance with HIPPA and confidential laws and regulations.
  • Follow and ensure guidelines of positive behavior support plans as well as documentation of any behaviors as they occur.
  • Consult on a daily basis with supervisor and Direct Support Specialists regarding individual performance, behavioral progress/intervention, and other related issues. Assist in the provision of on-going assessments and support for assigned caseload. Make recommendations for disciplinary action, performance reviews, and need for staff assistance to identify on-going support needed.
  • Attend service planning and other meetings as needed.
  • Record individual's attendance daily and monthly.
  • Discuss individuals, progress and concerns with Direct Support Specialists & assist with implementation of programs.
  • Support individuals at break and lunch time.
  • Accompany individuals to bus/transportation and document arrival and departure time.
  • Support individuals with any personal care needs they may have as required by individual functioning level.


Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Basic Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must be able to successfully complete FBI and State background investigation and drug screen.
  • Must be able to successfully complete the Virginia Department of Social Services registry search.
  • Must be able to successfully complete the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services fingerprinting and background check.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a Tuberculosis screening within 30 days of employment.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a LEIE (Office of Inspector General) search.
  • Must be able to successfully complete the following in-house training within the first 15 days of employment:
    • Orientation (Objectives and philosophies of Goodwill Industries of the Valleys)

      • Applicable Personnel Policies

  • Must be able to successfully complete the following in-house training upon hire and within a reasonable time period:

    • Mental Health First Aide Training
