Description

The Center for Surgical Innovation at Dartmouth is looking to hire talented engineers/researchers interested in development and validation of methods for guiding surgery. The facility is located at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. We are a multidisciplinary group, with new funding from the ARPA-H Precision Surgical Interventions program, dedicated to developing, validating and translating new methods for guiding robot-assisted surgical procedures through use of optical/fluorescence imaging, stereovision, and ultrasound, among others. Full or part-time employment is possible.

We are seeking individuals with a background in biomedical imaging, computational modeling, imaging processing, data visualization, and associated instrumentation. Computational and laboratory experience are required and experience in the operating room (OR) is highly desirable as is experience with AR/VR/AI, especially in the setting of medical images. This position will involve work with a team of collaborators comprised of engineers, laboratory scientists, clinicians, and related OR staff/personnel. Participation in operating room procedures, data collection and analyses, in both large animals or human cases is expected. Compensation is competitive and above the national average. Relocation assistance is available. Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent experience. Plans to complete a PhD in biomedical engineering, medical physics, molecular imaging or a related field are also acceptable.



Key Accountabilities

  • Designs and conducts experiments towards project objectives.
  • Analyzes and interprets acquired data.
  • Learns new techniques and subject matter. Stays current on relevant literature.
  • Conducts day-to-day research activities independently as assigned.
  • Participates in leadership roles in surgical OR data collection, analyses, and instrumentation operation during cases.
  • Shares objectives, results, interpretation, and conclusions with research team.
  • Prepares, submits and shepherds journal manuscripts as needed.
  • Presents results at scientific conferences as needed.
  • Maintains records of research activities, data collection and data analyses.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.
  • Performs other duties as required.


Qualifications


  • PhD in a relevant field (biomedical engineering, medical physics, medical imaging/image processing or equivalent) with a publication history or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in biomedical modeling, image processing, data visualization, real-time data acquisition and processing.
  • Demonstrated strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary professional environment such as the OR
