Lutheran Social Services of Illinois is a not-for-profit social service agency with more than70 program sites throughout the state of Illinois. Our services include counseling, mental health, substance abuse treatment, housing, work with prisoners and their families and services for older adults and a variety of services for children including preschool, foster care, and adoption.
LSSI is hiring a full-time Intake Coordinator Engagement Specialist-Substance Use. To provide outreach and engagement services to clients living in the community.

Essential Functions:
  • Partner with primary clinician in finding, contacting, and engaging individuals within the program who are experiencing mental health and substance misuse.
  • Provide timely and accurate assessments of incoming calls with clinically appropriate dispositions.
  • Coordinate admissions and obtain prior authorization for services when applicable.
  • Contact clients' insurance providers to verify coverage and to obtain necessary additional information.
  • Provide program education, complete a basic needs assessment, and safety planning with clients in person.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurately completed in a timely manner; meet Rule 140 and/or IHPA requirements.
  • Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations and/or individual in a dignified, respectful, honest and fair manner.
Position Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree and/or master's degree in social services preferred.
  • Professional certification or licensure (LSW, LPC, LCSW, or CADC) obtained within two years of hire date required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in human/social services required.
  • Experience using DSM-5 and ASAM criteria preferred.
  • Experience in the substance abuse treatment field preferred.
  • Completion of annual TB test required.
  • Fluency in English required, bilingual fluency in Spanish preferred.
  • Background check clearance required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner, both verbally and in writing required.
  • Excellent organization and pc/computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office
  • (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) along with other related software.
  • Valid driver's license, in good standing for the state of residency required and access to reliable transportation required.
  • Valid IL statutory minimum liability insurance coverage, bodily injury and property damage required.
