The PRC seeks a collaborative and highly motivated prevention scientist who is committed to advancing research that improves the health and well-being of children, families, and communities. We are particularly interested in candidates who are enthusiastic about developing and contributing to externally funded research, writing competitive grant proposals, and building a program of scholarship within the broad field of prevention science.

Areas of research interest may include, but are not limited to:

  • Development, implementation, and evaluation of preventive interventions
  • Etiology and the study of risk and protective factors
  • Community-based and population-level prevention
  • Implementation and dissemination science
  • Research-to-practice and research-to-policy translation
  • Prevention of behavioral health problems, substance use, violence, and other adverse outcomes
  • Promotion of child, family, and community health and well-being
  • Economic evaluation and assessment of the societal impact of prevention programs and policies
  • Innovative methods, data science, and emerging technologies applied to prevention research

We welcome candidates whose work complements and expands the Center's existing research portfolio and who are interested in collaborating across disciplines and projects. The successful candidate will be expected to participate actively in the intellectual life of the PRC and to contribute to the development of new research initiatives and funding opportunities.

Successful applicants should demonstrate:

  • A clear and developing program of prevention research
  • A strong and growing record of peer-reviewed scholarship
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in developing grant proposals
  • The capacity to contribute to and, over time, lead externally funded research projects
  • A commitment to collaborative, interdisciplinary research
  • Strong methodological and scientific skills relevant to prevention research

An earned doctorate in a relevant behavioral, social, public health, or related discipline is required. Relevant fields may include human development and family studies, psychology, public health, social work, sociology, education, prevention science, health policy, or related disciplines. Candidates should demonstrate the potential for outstanding scholarly accomplishments and the development of a sustainable externally funded research program.

The Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center is an interdisciplinary research center dedicated to advancing the science of prevention and improving the health and well-being of children, families, and communities. The Center brings together faculty, research scientists, staff, students, policymakers, practitioners, and community partners to develop, evaluate, implement, and disseminate effective approaches to prevention.

The PRC supports a diverse portfolio of research spanning intervention development and evaluation, implementation science, community-based prevention, behavioral health, research translation, policy, economic evaluation, and innovative applications of data and technology. Center investigators lead and collaborate on projects supported by federal agencies, including the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation, as well as foundations, state and federal government agencies, and other partners.

A central goal of this position is to expand the PRC's research portfolio. Accordingly, we are especially interested in candidates who are motivated to write grants, pursue new funding opportunities, develop collaborative research teams, and establish an externally funded program of prevention research.

Review of applications and nominations will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
