Job Summary As a Drafter, you will usea computer-aided design (CAD) to create, revise, and maintain 2D technical drawings for natural gas distribution and/or transmission pipelines and facilities. Working with engineering teams, designers, and other project stakeholders, you will translate project information into accurate drawings that support new business, public and system improvements, and maintenance projects. Drafter 1 requires foundational AutoCAD experience, while Drafter 2 requires more extensive hands-on experience and greater proficiency in preparing and revising technical drawings. Key Responsibilities Assist engineering Review project plans, specifications, and supporting documents to prepare accurate drawings. Prepare and revise 2D technical drawings and schematics in AutoCAD, including piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and isometrics. Maintain accurate records of drawing revisions and design changes. Complete assigned tasks independently, seeking guidance from designers and engineering teams as needed. Support engineering and operations teams during emergencies and other business needs, including emergency outage management and after-hours support as needed. Level-Specific Responsibilities Drafter 1 Apply foundational AutoCAD skills to prepare and revise 2D drawings using provided redlines, sketches, plans, and written instructions, with guidance from designers and engineering teams as needed. Use ArcGIS to integrate GIS data for the project footprint. Drafter 2 Apply more extensive hands-on AutoCAD experience to prepare and revise 2D technical drawings from sketches, plans, and written and verbal instructions, with greater independence in completing drafting assignments. Assist with integrating site survey data for processing. Use ArcGIS to integrate and extrapolate GIS data to support site analysis, route selection, and environmental assessments. Required Qualifications Both Levels High school diploma or GED. Basic understanding of Plant 2D. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Validate driver's license Ability to pass a DOT drug screen Additional Requirements by Level Drafter 1 At least 1 year of relevant job experience. Foundational hands-on experience using AutoCAD to create and revise 2D drawings, including working with layers, dimensions, and drawing annotations. Familiarity with ArcGIS software. Drafter 2 At least 3 years of relevant job experience. Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD, supported by more extensive hands-on experience preparing and revising 2D technical drawings, managing layers, dimensions, and annotations, and incorporating design changes with limited guidance. Basic understanding of engineering and construction principles. Basic knowledge of industry standards and regulatory guidelines. Preferred Qualifications Both Levels Associates degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field. Certified Drafter (CD) offered by the American Design Drafting Association (ADAA) Basic knowledge of industry standards and regulatory guidelines. Basic understanding of engineering and construction principles. Familiarity with GIS software. Position Level and Salary Range This position may be filled at the Drafter 1 or Drafter 2 level. The successful candidate's placement will be determined by education, relevant experience, and qualifications consistent with the requirements for each level. Drafter 1: $54,000-$75,500 Drafter 2: $62,000-$86,800 As a public utility, NiSource provides essential services to customers 24/7. Emergency needs can arise at various times throughout the year, including during storm season. Employees may be required to support emergency response efforts, which could include working outside normal hours or assisting with tasks outside of typical responsibilities.
