NOTE: The MESA program is looking for a part-time MESA Counselor to work with our students starting Spring 2027 (training beginning in January 2027) for up to 10-15 hours/week.

The California Community College Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Program is an academic support program dedicated to increasing the number of economically and educationally disadvantaged, first-generation students who enter calculus-based degree programs in mathematics, engineering, science, and technology. At Coastline College, MESA serves a predominantly online student population with a comprehensive support system that helps students succeed academically, prepare for transfer to four-year universities, and build careers in calculus-based STEM fields. Through academic counseling, tutoring, hands-on learning opportunities, and community building, MESA helps students navigate the path from community college to a four-year STEM degree and, ultimately, the STEM workforce.

The Coast Community College District is a multi-college district that includes Coastline Community College, Golden West College, and Orange Coast College. The three colleges offer programs in transfer, general education, occupational/technical education, community services and student support services. Coastline, Golden West and Orange Coast enroll more than 60,000 students each year in more than 300 degree and certificate programs.

Since its founding in 1947, the Coast Community College District has enjoyed a reputation as one of the leading community college districts in the United States. Many of our colleges are designated Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) and Asian American Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISI). Coastline's MESA Program
Established over 40 years ago, the California Community College Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Program helps underserved and underrepresented students majoring in calculus-based STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields who seek to transfer to a four-year institution. On the heels of the
civil rights movement, a group of concerned educators and community activists in the California Bay Area created MESA. Its goal: provide academic support, resources and career exploration needed to increase the number of minority students graduating from undergraduate engineering programs. A grassroots effort that began with 25 students at Oakland Technical High School in 1970 has flourished into an award-winning program that serves almost 25,000 students throughout California each year.
