What to Expect
The Supply Chain Analytics team, part of the Process & Analytics organization, provides dedicated analytical support to operational teams across Tesla's supply chain - driving process improvements and strategic decision-making through data. In this role, you will be the primary Data Engineer supporting Material Planning's Safety Stock program. You will own the data pipelines, analytical products, and recurring processes that enable planners across multiple manufacturing and remanufacturing sites to make data-driven safety-stock decisions. You will design and operate the safety-stock parameter-management process, the recurring material classification refresh, and Days-on-Hand analytics that drive millions of dollars of inventory impact. You will partner closely with planners, system managers, supply chain managers, and IT, and leverage the standards, tools, and expertise of the central Analytics team. The ideal candidate is a curious and driven engineer who excels at building strong stakeholder relationships, automating data workflows, and solving complex business problems with data.
What You'll Do
- Own the safety-stock policy and parameter-management process end-to-end across all manufacturing and remanufacturing sites - including dynamic safety-stock parameters, supply/demand risk maintenance, impact validation, and recurring impact reports
- Manage the recurring material classification refresh cycle across sites, coordinating with planners on classification assignments and downstream planning impact
- Respond to ad-hoc safety-stock analyses and increase requests from planners, sizing financial impact and driving root-cause investigation for coverage gaps
- Build and maintain automated data pipelines (SQL, Python, Airflow) and operational dashboards (Tableau or similar) for safety-stock KPIs, parameter coverage, and inventory impact
- Validate safety-stock logic, investigate false positives and coverage gaps, and ensure data accuracy across safety-stock and demand-waterfall products
- Leverage AI tools and internal platforms to automate manual workflows, data extraction, document processing, and data migration
- Partner cross-functionally with planners, Supply Chain Managers, IT, and systems teams - supporting leadership with analyses, dashboards, and roadmap documentation, and independently managing multiple concurrent projects to deadline
What You'll Bring
- Degree in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Analytics, Economics or equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability, with 2+ years of experience in supply chain analytics, material planning, safety-stock / inventory management, or a related analytical role
- A structured, data-driven, and quantitative approach to problem-solving
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python (or equivalent) for querying large datasets and building automated pipelines (Airflow or similar)
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data and present findings clearly and concisely
- A collaborative, flexible working style with the ability to build trust and credibility across planners, Supply Chain Managers, and engineering partners
- Experience creating dashboards and visualizations using Tableau or similar tools
- Familiarity with material planning concepts (safety stock, inventory classification, Days-on-Hand, demand planning, MRP) and AI tools for data processing / automation is a strong plus
