What to Expect
This position is expected to begin January 2027 and continue through April 2027. Internships at Tesla are generally full-time, onsite roles that last a minimum of 12 weeks. International Students: If your work authorization is via CPT, consult your school regarding your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week onsite. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year. About the Team AsaSoftwareIntegration Engineer Intern, you willbe responsible forensuring firmware support for new battery managementfeaturesand new hardware are designed, implemented, and tested to achieve Tesla's standards for safety and customer experience. Battery Management Systems arecomprisedof the controllers and firmware thatmonitorthe battery, ensure it is delivering the most power and energy possible while maximizing capacity retention over life. BMSsoftwareintegration engineersare responsible forthe performance of algorithms that predict available power and energy, and functions that ensureoptimalcharging, effective thermalmanagementand high voltage safety monitoring.
What You'll Do
- Work with the design and development engineers throughout the engineering organization to ensure the relevant subsystems are designed withappropriate requirements,interfacesand interactions to achieve specific vehicle functions
- Break down new, high-level feature requests into sub-system andcomponentlevel requirements, and drive the implementation,testingand release of these features against Tesla's firmware release schedule
- Utilize critical analysis of potential failure modes and effects to influence these requirements
- Develop overall validation strategy for these features and work with validation teams to ensure automated test coverage is implemented for future firmware releases
- Work cross-functionally across mechanical, electrical, system architecture, firmware development and firmware validation teams to understand new component-level hardware changes which are being developed and how to support them in firmware - both in manufacturing and for customer use - so that they can be seamlessly introduced to our vehicle platforms
- Develop and execute firmware integration test plans on new hardware components and firmware features to rapidly retire risk fromnew designsand provide feedback to the development teams to accelerate our aggressive development cycles
- Dig into data and source code toidentifyand debug issues at the system level and propose robust solutions
- Work with manufacturing and with service to ensure the function(s)arerolled out and functioning properly. This can include development of processes, diagnostic tools and methods, and root-cause diagnosis for product issues
- Develop prototype test setups to integrate new subsystems with simulated and actual vehicle components
What You'll Bring
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or a related field of study with a graduation date between May 2027- May 2028
- Hands-on technical experience debugging complex systems involving networked microprocessors and software-controlled electrical or electromechanical devices
- Experience with C or C++required, Python is a plus
- Thorough understanding of mechanical fundamentals - and ability to apply them to automotive concepts
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
- Experience with CAN and Ethernet networking is a plusExperience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) is a plus

Expected Compensation
$42.07 - $58.89 + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
