What to Expect
We are seeking a Quality Manager who owns quality for the Semi business holistically from when parts arrive in the Semi Factory through field and service operations. This person will be responsible for closing the loop from where the issue occurs - factory, with a customer, in service - to all relevant groups upstream to ensure rapid improvements, cost reductions, and improved fleet performance. You will lead quality engineers, technicians, and managers and build out necessary teams as the program scales. You should know the product and work with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to aid in root cause efforts and identifying the best way to resolve issues.
What You'll Do
- Build and lead a team of quality engineers, technicians, and managers covering inbound, production, outbound, field, and service quality. These individuals should be empowered and trained to handle their responsibilities and connect with cross functional teams
- Establish quality standards across all your areas, learning from existing Tesla practices and implementing a refined quality system to best serve Semi. This should connect multiple data sources to measure performance and alert teams to outliers and concerning trends. Actions should be immediately taken to address issues and kick off necessary investigation and resolution efforts
- Lead incoming inspection strategies, engage with suppliers, and performance manage critical Semi components. Implement necessary controls, monitoring, and programs to contain unacceptable parts while partnering with Supply Chain to drive to zero-defect supply
- Drive factory quality operations to deliver industry leading first-pass yield, lower repair and rectification cost, and seamless introduction of new variants and products
- Own field reliability and quality by working with service operations and customers to identify, track, reduce, and eliminate failures. Find trends, get to root cause, and drive the product and process changes that cut failures and cost
- Define and elevate service quality standards across Tesla Service Centers, mobile service, and body/collision partners for the Semi to improve service operations, and eliminate repeat visits
- Continually work to lower warranty cost, evaluate remanufacturing vs new business cases, and improve field performance for our customers
What You'll Bring
- 10+ years in quality on vehicles or other complex hardware, including time leading people. Heavy truck, automotive, or similar preferred
- History of building and managing multi-level, geographically distributed teams
- Experience in end-to-end quality management, ideally with high volume, integrated electrical + mechanical products
- Engineering Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience
- Work experience with data analysis and large quantity of fleet statistics
- Comfortable in a fast, dynamic, high-volume environment
- Travel as needed to suppliers, customers, and service sites
