Chair - Department of Dermatology

The Chair of Dermatology will be responsible for oversight of all clinical, research, academic, and administrative affairs of the department and for building and maintaining world-class programs in translational, clinical, and outcomes research. Resources and space are available for this programmatic development.

Reporting Relationship

The Chair of Dermatology will report to the Vice President for Medical Affairs and Dean of the Feinberg School of Medicine regarding research, education, and university matters, and reports to the CEO of NMHC (or his designee) regarding all clinical matters. An administrative team exists for purposes of managing departmental finances and administration.

Responsibilities of the Chair

* Participates and oversees work to advance the department's clinical, research, and teaching programs.

* Works closely with NMHC/NMG to carry out and advance the clinical mission of the department.

* Works with the Chairs of other clinical and basic science departments to foster growth within Northwestern Medicine and Northwestern University and develops cross-department and cross-school collaborations to further enhance the research mission of the department.

* Supports, develops, and retains existing faculty.

* Recruits, develops, and retains outstanding academic and clinical investigators.

* Maintains a fully accredited, high quality residency program with effective supervision of housestaff.

* Maintains and further develops high quality fellowship programs.

* Maintains financial solvency of the department.

* Ensures research compliance in the department.

* Serves as a member of the Feinberg Executive Committee of the Faculty.

* Serves on University, Feinberg, and Northwestern Medicine committees, as requested.

* Works with Feinberg and Northwestern Medicine leadership to help execute on the Northwestern University and Northwestern Medicine strategic plans.

The following competencies, credentials, skills and qualities will be characteristics of the ideal candidate for the new Chair of Dermatology.

Academic Credentials/Education

The successful candidate will be:

* A graduate of an LCME-accredited medical school with an MD, MD/PhD, or other appropriate degrees; alternatively, certified by the ECFMG

* Board-certified in Dermatology

* Eligible to hold a professor appointment

Experience

Overall, the Chair of Dermatology must possess the skills to lead a nationally prominent and respected department. The candidate should possess:

* National and international reputation as an expert in Dermatology who is highly regarded as an academic leader with sponsored funding.

* A record of successful administrative performance with administrative and budgeting responsibilities.

* Ability to define and implement a vision.

* Record of success mentoring and developing faculty to support their academic and teaching endeavors.

* Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with other colleagues within a medical school and senior leadership of an academic medical center and its affiliates.

* A record of developing interdisciplinary research and programs.

* Leadership experience in academic societies at a national level.

The start date is negotiable and the position will remain open until filled.

The expected base pay range for this position is $667,000 - $1,051,000.

The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal comparators; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
