In this role, you will be a strategic leader responsible for overseeing all preconstruction activities within a market or group of markets or leads significant portions of the preconstruction group such as Estimating, Supply Chain, Standards, or other important groups. You will ensure that projects are accurately scoped, competitively priced, and positioned for success prior to construction start. You will collaborate closely with executive leadership, design teams, project managers, and clients to drive predictable outcomes and strengthen the firm's market position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists the VP of Preconstruction in developing the Precon group strategy, vision, and business planning process.
  • Ensures the Preconstruction process aligns with Market business development and operational goals.
  • Drives pursuit strategy, including go/no-go input and win planning.
  • Coordinates, manages, supervises, and trains preconstruction members and support staff.
  • Develops and mentors preconstruction leadership and teams.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with existing and new clients.
  • Participates with the preparation of proposals for new business and presentations to clients.
  • Attends and participates in business meetings, industry events, and conferences.
  • Participates in and assists in attracting, recruiting, developing, and retaining top caliber talent.
  • Oversees, prepares and analyzes cost models during the Design Development and/or bidding period.
  • Ensures Preconstruction deliverables have appropriate budgets and that teams are adhering to those budgets.
  • Ensures teams under their leadership are properly assigned to projects and job costed.
  • Ensures the preconstruction process, tools, and standards are adhered to for their markets.
  • Maintains historical costs and leverages those in analysis of estimates.
  • Ensures delivery of accurate, complete, and competitive estimates.
  • Oversees risk management, pricing strategy, and contingency development.
  • Reviews project constructability and value analysis.
  • Monitors monthly cost analysis for all active preconstruction assignments. Assists and/or manages the preconstruction department budget.
  • Drives continuous improvement in preconstruction processes and competitiveness to increase win rate.
  • Supports the project lifecycle through buyout and early execution as needed.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase profit margin on projects.
  • Digital / Technical Expectations:
    • Drive adoption of digital estimating tools, cost databases, and analytics.
    • Ensure consistent use of benchmarking and data-driven decision-making.
  • Travel for proposal presentations and industry events.
  • Visit active construction projects as appropriate.
  • Expected travel 10-25% of time as needed.

Education and Years of Experience:

Bachelor of Science Degree in accredited construction related curriculum, such as Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent plus 12 years of experience; or 16 years of relevant experience in the construction industry.

  • Demonstrated imaginative, innovative, and succinct approach to a project.
  • Detailed and deadline oriented, well-organized, and ability to prioritize.
  • Excellent oral and written skills.

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
