Pay & Posting End Date:



$20.00 Per Hour / Posted Thru: 7-31-26



Limited Term:



This position is funded until 9-30-26. Possibility of funding extension.



Hours Requirement:



This is a part-time, on-call position, up to 29 hours per week. The total number of weekly hours are not guaranteed.



Location:



Remote with travel throughout Lansing, MI.





Purpose



Peacekeepers are responsible for supporting efforts to reduce gun violence in urban neighborhoods by helping to engage community members affected by or involved in gun-related conflicts. Peacekeepers help facilitate specifically assigned activities and opportunities that promote safer communities.




Duties and Responsibilities




  • Facilitate gun violence intervention activities within impacted communties as assigned by local strategy manager, field coordinator or Neighborhood Change Agents.
  • Maintain a time-bound presence within communities impacted by gun violence.
  • Perform street outreach, conflict mediation, and violence intervention activities as assigned.
  • Conduct outreach to individuals involved in gun-related incidents, their families, and associates to share information about available services.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of client documentation and program assessment records while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Cultivate relationships with community, faith-based, and governmental organizations to advance violence prevention efforts.
  • Collaborate with team members during meetings to share contacts, outcomes, and enhance program effectiveness.
  • Represent the interests of community partners and stakeholders in all program activities.
  • Represent the best interests of MPHI at all times.
  • Additional duties as assigned.




Qualifications/Requirements




  • High school diploma or equivalent with 0-3 years of related experience.
  • Experience in violence prevention, community intervention, or community development preferred.

  • Maintain high confidentiality and professional ethics while operating within multicultural team environments.
  • Exhibit strong documentation skills to accurately record processes and outcomes according to program protocols.
  • Leverage excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build trust with community members, program participants, and stakeholders.
  • Operate effectively under direct supervision by following established processes and adapting to dynamic settings.
  • Adapt to a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends, while remaining organized and detail-oriented.
  • Utilize cultural competence and community insight to navigate complex social environments successfully.




Physical Demands




  • Sufficient mobility to work in both urban street-level and office settings.
  • Communicate ideas orally with precision and clarity.
  • Sufficient vision to read printed materials and hearing to exchange information effectively.
  • Travel confidently to various community locations and meetings.
  • Withstand diverse environmental conditions.




Work Environment



This job involves a combination of urban street-level outreach and office-based activities. The role requires working in dynamic community settings with occasional travel outside of the city and operating in a moderate noise environment. Must be a resident of the Lansing and will be expected to travel outside of the city from time-to-time.
