The Opportunity:

The Statistical Coordinator supports the research and educational mission of the College of Medicine by providing statistical consultation, research methodology guidance, and data analysis support to medical students and faculty. This position serves as a key resource within the Focused Inquiry Research Experience (F.I.R.E.) curriculum, assisting students with study design, data management, statistical analyses, IRB processes, and interpretation of research findings. The role also contributes to assessment quality improvement efforts through psychometric analysis and supports research-related events and curricular activities.

Responsibilities:

Research Design & Statistical Consultation:

• Provide consultation and guidance to medical students and faculty on research design, study methodology, and statistical approaches.

• Advise on the selection and application of appropriate statistical tests based on research objectives and study design.

• Support the development of statistical analysis plans, including sample size determination and power analyses.

• Assist researchers in interpreting study findings and translating results into meaningful conclusions.

Data Collection, Management & Statistical Analysis:

• Advise on best practices for data collection, processing, management, and quality control.

• Provide instruction and support on the use of survey and data capture platforms, including Qualtrics and REDCap.

• Develop and organize data files for import into statistical software programs.

• Guide students and faculty in conducting statistical analyses using SPSS, R, and other relevant statistical software.

• Support data visualization and reporting through written summaries, tables, and graphical presentations.

Student Research & Academic Support:

• Serve as a statistical resource for first- and second-year medical students participating in the Focused Inquiry Research Experience (F.I.R.E.) module.

• Provide individualized and group instruction related to research methodology, data analysis, and interpretation of results.

• Mentor students throughout the research process, from project development through dissemination of findings.

• Assist students in preparing research presentations, posters, and scholarly reports.

IRB & Research Compliance Support:

• Provide guidance on Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocol development, implementation, and maintenance.

• Advise students and faculty on protocol modifications, continuing reviews, and regulatory requirements.

• Promote ethical research practices and ensure adherence to institutional and regulatory standards.

• Assist with statistical and methodological components of IRB submissions as needed.

Assessment & Psychometric Analysis:

• Conduct psychometric analyses to evaluate the validity, reliability, and fairness of educational assessments.

• Analyze assessment data and provide recommendations to support continuous improvement of evaluation methods.

• Collaborate with academic and administrative stakeholders to enhance assessment quality and outcomes measurement.

Research Conference & Program Support:

• Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of student research conferences and scholarly events.

• Compile, analyze, and report conference evaluation data, including tabulation of student scores, rankings, and awards.

• Support research-related communications, reporting, and administrative initiatives within the College.

Administrative & Operational Support:

• Participate in departmental, curriculum, and team meetings as assigned.

• Assist with exam proctoring and the administration of curricular activities.

• Maintain accurate records and documentation related to assigned responsibilities.

• Complete all required university and college trainings, certifications, and compliance updates in a timely manner.

• Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental and college objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree; or Bachelor's degree with 2 years of relevant experience in the areas of biostatistics, epidemiology, data analytics, and/or related areas.

• Experience providing instruction, tutoring, consultation, or mentorship in research methodology, study design, data collection procedures, and statistical analysis, with the demonstrated ability to guide students in developing research methods, selecting appropriate data collection techniques, and applying quantitative and qualitative research principles.

• Basic working knowledge of biostatistics with associated computational skills (proficiency with Microsoft Excel and SPSS).

• Excellent people skills and be able to work effectively with medical students, physicians, and staff on a regular basis.

• Computer programming and big data analytic skills including R, Python, and /or other languages.

• Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence methods applicable to medical research.

• Experience with meta-analyses and/or systematic reviews.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $56,030- $68,637. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
