Job Description: Reporting to the Senior Director Supply Chain, the Associate Director, Planning is responsible for leading and developing Planning function. This role drives the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process, Master Production Scheduling (MPS), Material Requirements Planning (MRP), Clear-to-Build (CTB) governance, inventory optimization, SAP set up and production scheduling activities. The Associate Director ensures alignment between customer demand, manufacturing capacity, material availability, and business objectives while delivering high service levels, inventory targets, and operational excellence. This position serves as a key member of the Supply Chain leadership team and acts as the primary link between Commercial, Operations, Procurement, Quality, Finance, and Business Development.
- Lead the development and execution of integrated supply and production plans across all manufacturing and packaging operations.
- Establish long-range planning (LRP) strategies to support business growth, capacity utilization, and new product introductions.
- Drive the monthly S&OP process, ensuring a single consensus plan across all functions.
- Provide scenario planning and risk assessments to support executive decision-making.
- Develop and implement planning strategies that improve customer service, inventory performance, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Own the monthly S&OP cycle, including Demand Review, Supply Review, Inventory Review, Executive S&OP, and action tracking.
- Facilitate cross-functional alignment between Commercial, Operations, Procurement, and Finance.
- Identify capacity constraints, material risks, and demand fluctuations and develop mitigation strategies.
- Present recommendations and supply chain performance metrics to senior leadership.
- Ensure execution integrity against approved S&OP plans.
- Provide oversight of Master Production Scheduling (MPS) for compounding, manufacturing, inspection, and packaging operations.
- Ensure production schedules align with customer commitments, available capacity, and material availability.
- Balance manufacturing priorities to optimize utilization, changeover efficiency, and service levels.
- Review schedule adherence and implement corrective actions when deviations occur.
- Lead capacity planning processes for short-, medium-, and long-term horizons.
- Ensure effective utilization of SAP MRP and MPS processes.
- Establish planning parameters, planning strategies, safety stock policies, and inventory controls.
- Oversee planning master data integrity, including BOMs, recipes, lead times, routing structures, and planning settings.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within planning systems and digital tools.
- Ensure planners maintain accurate production orders and transaction integrity.
- Lead the CTB governance process and escalation management.
- Review CTB performance metrics and identify recurring constraints.
- Ensure timely resolution of material shortages, quality holds, supplier disruptions, and scheduling conflicts.
- Partner with Procurement, Warehouse, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to maximize production readiness.
- Monitor CTB KPIs and establish improvement plans to increase build readiness and schedule reliability.
- Manage inventory strategy, including safety stock, excess and obsolete inventory, slow-moving materials, and inventory health metrics.
- Balance inventory investment with customer service requirements.
- Lead inventory reviews and support monthly financial provisioning activities.
- Develop inventory reduction initiatives while maintaining business continuity.
- Monitor inventory projections and drive corrective actions where required
- Lead, coach, and develop Planning Managers, Master Schedulers, Production Planners, Packaging Planners, and support personnel.
- Establish performance objectives, development plans, and succession strategies.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Standardize planning processes and best practices across sites.
- Build organizational capability to support future business growth and operational complexity
- Develop planning KPIs and dashboards to measure planning effectiveness.
- Lead Lean and process improvement initiatives impacting planning performance.
- Improve forecast accuracy, schedule adherence, CTB performance, inventory turns, and capacity utilization.
- Drive harmonization of planning practices across sites and business units.
- Support audits, regulatory inspections, and compliance initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field required; Master's Degree desired
- 10+ years of progressive Supply Chain and Planning experience required
- 5+ years in Data analysis required
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing planning teams in a manufacturing environment required
- Experience with S&OP, Production Planning, MPS, MRP, Capacity Planning, and Inventory Management required
- SAP knowledge required
- Knowledge of Excel and Power BI required
- Knowledge of Supply Chain principles required
- Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or regulated manufacturing experience desired
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt desired
- CSCP certification desired
- APICS CPIM certification desired
- Knowledge of Excel and Power BI required
