The position performs installation, repair, and maintain of the landscaping and grounds to ensure customer satisfaction around USU Housing facilities. Works as a member of the Grounds and Maintenance team, either with limited direction or under supervision. The Landscaper II reports to a Landscaper Lead. This classification may train and guide student and/or hourly employees. Responsibilities Position performs installation, repair, and maintenance of the landscaping and grounds to ensure customer satisfaction around USU Housing facilities. Perform preventative maintenance work, such as checking fluid levels, sharpening blades and repairing equipment. Skill in performing routine manual labor. Ability to operate landscape maintenance equipment. Ability to operate heavy equipment (i.e. backhoe, skid steer). Ability to effectively plant and maintain trees, shrubs, flower beds, etc. Skill in operating snow removal equipment. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Two years of experience or an associate degree/technical training in a related field is required. Must be punctual to work. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in performing routine manual labor. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of plant materials and their cultural requirements. Knowledge of fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides used in grounds care and gardening. Knowledge of irrigation systems including adjusting clocks, repairing broken lines, wiring and sprinklers. Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and customers. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Knowledge of applicable safety procedures. Ability to diagnose plant conditions and cultural needs and recommend treatment for problems. Knowledge of pesticides. Knowledge of irrigation equipment and methods. Knowledge of soil types, slope and drainage. Skill in performing routine manual labor. Ability to operate landscape maintenance equipment. Ability to operate heavy equipment (i.e. backhoe, skid steer). Ability to effectively plant and maintain trees, shrubs, flower beds, etc. Skill in operating snow removal equipment. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position, including lifting up to 25 pounds, walking and standing. Must be able to operate heavy machinery during all seasons of the year. Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold.
