Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled professional responsible for performing a variety of specialized technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound utilizing high frequency sound waves to assist medical and professional personnel in detecting anatomical abnormalities.


Essential Job Functions

  • Perform procedures according to departmental format, completing exams in allotted time.
  • Perform required daily clerical duties, including the use of EPIC, Tele tracking System, and other computer systems.
  • Conduct portable ultrasound exams.
  • Execute complex technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound to detect anatomical abnormalities, including masses, abscesses, and stones.
  • Assist physicians with biopsy deep abdominal studies and color-flow ultrasound as required.
  • Determine, prepare, and set up medical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures, explain procedures, measure and position patients for each anatomical view.
  • Evaluate technical quality of images. Obtain and process images of pathogenic conditions in accordance with standard procedures or techniques.
  • Maintain records of ultrasounds taken, archiving and de-archiving data as required. Calculate, compile, and record data from numerical readings on patient's charts and related documents.
  • Calibrate, clean, and perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, supplies, and equipment. Stock and replenish supplies as required.
  • Provide technical assistance and instruction to students, employees, and medical residents.
  • Lift a minimum of 25 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs., and stand a minimum of 6 hours a day.
  • Greet in/out patients when they arrive for their exam utilizing A.I.D.E.T. standards.
  • Responsible for scheduled shifts including holidays and weekends.
  • Overtime as needed to provide continual quality patient care.
  • On-call assignments as needed per Department of Radiology policy.
  • Adhere to the policies of Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality.
  • Identify the needs of the patient population served and modify and deliver care specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.).
  • Adhere to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Must hold a BLS.
  • Knowledge of all ultrasound equipment, their function, and operation of each control.
  • Understanding of equipment and computer systems as well as the procedures for equipment service.
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of safety, infection, and disaster policy and procedures, including implementation of patient care in cases of an emergency situation.
  • Maintain CEU Credits.

Required Education

  • Graduate of an approved Ultrasound School.
  • 2 years training in Allied Health/College.


Required Certifications & Licensure

  • R.D.M.S. registered.
  • Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).


Preferred Certifications & Licensure

  • ARDMS, Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with Breast (BR) specialty or equivalent breast ultrasound credential
