Description
Health Aides work under the direct supervision of the Health and Nutrition Manager in the Early Head Start Program within the Department of Pediatrics. Requests health records of enrolled children and pregnant women, enters data daily into the data tracking system, and maintains the system up to date. This includes well-childcare visits, immunizations, hearing, vision, nutrition, oral/dental, and ongoing specialized healthcare needs. Retrieves immunization records of children enrolled or on the waiting list from the California Immunization Registry (CAIR), adheres to confidentiality policy, and enters data into the data tracking system. Assists parents in obtaining electronic immunization cards. Works with parents to obtain child's health status information and information on follow-up appointments. Provides health education training to enrolled participants. Health Aides conduct hearing and vision screenings and perform other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate must have the ability to work with high-need communities and travel to various site locations including, but not limited to Arleta, Pacoima, Sylmar and Lake View Terrace. This is a five-month limited position that may convert to career. Salary Range: $26.92 - $50.86 Hourly
Qualifications
Required:
- B.A in health, child development, or related area, or LVN
or equivalent experience - Required to hold valid California driver's license and
available transportation. - Minimum of two years of experience working in a
health-related field - Six months to one year of experience working administrative
clerical work - Experience working with community agencies, parents, and
health clinics - Knowledge of public health programs and community resources
- Completion and submission of required personnel forms prior
to employment. - Ability to communicate effectively with families, Early
Head Start staff, community resource agencies, consultants and volunteers to support families in locating and accessing appropriate community services as needed. - Ability to provide education and training opportunities and
promote positive relationship building for all enrolled pregnant women, families, and their infants and toddlers. - Ability to conduct on-site staff training if needed.

Index Clearance - Per funding agency requirements, all Early Head Start staff
must complete background checks at least every five years that include a sex offender registry check, State or FBI criminal history check, including fingerprint check, and child abuse and neglect state registry check if available in the state of California.
Preferred:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Units in child development or health-related field.
- Knowledge of program philosophy, goals, principles,
objectives and requirements; Early Head Start policies and procedures; understanding of child development principles with an emphasis on infant/toddler developmental stages and nurturing concepts; prenatal development and appropriate health care during pregnancy; family dynamics, cultural beliefs; advocacy and intervention concepts; crisis management, community resources and referral; processes and functions of social service agencies; - Family Development Credential Training
