Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000

Position Summary
The Center for the Advancement of Teaching (CAT) promotes the value and practice of excellent teaching that facilitates student learning and growth. It is an integral unit within the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs portfolio, which provides holistic support for faculty development across all aspects of their professional lives.

The CAT's pedagogical and educational technology programs and resources support evidence-based teaching and curricular practices and provide opportunities for faculty and TAs to learn from their colleagues' experience and expertise. The CAT supports teaching in face-to-face, online, studio, and clinical environments and collaborates with other campus units that advance academic excellence and student success. In addition to regular programming and consultation services, the center hosts several special programs, including faculty learning communities on various pedagogical topics, a summer intensive teaching academy, an annual faculty conference, and TA Orientation. The educational developers, educational technology specialists, and operations staff of the CAT support all 17 colleges within Temple University, which includes nearly 4,000 faculty members and TAs in undergraduate, graduate, and professional disciplines.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Digital & Emerging Media, the Teaching & Learning Specialist at the Center for the Advancement of Teaching collaborates with the educational developers at the center to support the research and design of educational development programs for all disciplines at Temple University and conducts individual consultations, classroom observations, and small and large instructional diagnoses with faculty to improve teaching. Handles workflows and tasks for the CAT's Teaching in Higher Education Certificate (THEC) and the workshop planning process. This position also has responsibilities in the educational technology labs, supporting faculty in effectively using technology for teaching. Will support the team in the execution of signature CAT events, as needed, and in improving written communication created by CAT staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate has teaching experience at the university level and familiarity with the literature on how people learn and with technologies used for teaching and learning. They will communicate clearly, persuasively, and enthusiastically. They must enjoy developing others' knowledge and skills, with patience, strong problem-solving skills, and a professional work attitude. Will demonstrate organizational skills, the willingness to take initiative to get things done, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. The candidate must be highly collaborative and provide evidence of collaboration on initiatives to meet student or faculty needs. Essential to this position is the desire to develop collaborative, supportive relationships with faculty to meet their needs and attract them to the services the center provides.

Required Education and Experience
* Master's degree
* At least 3 years of teaching experience in a college and/or university, which may include service as a teaching assistant
* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience
* Terminal degree preferred
* Knowledge of current research and issues in higher education
* Interest in contributing to the scholarship on teaching and learning

Required Skills and Abilities
* Demonstrated evidence of effective teaching in a college or university
* Evidence of strong communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
* Facility with the use of technology in teaching, and a willingness to learn new technologies
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate on projects and/or events
* Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills, especially around teaching issues
* Detail-oriented
* Demonstrated ability and willingness to work effectively with other team members to achieve goals
