Overview
The Sr. Architect, Enterprise serves as the organization's principal architecture leader responsible for defining and governing enterprise technology architecture with a strategic focus on Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Enterprise Integration, and Digital Product Architecture. This role establishes the long-term technology vision, target-state architectures, architectural standards, governance frameworks, and modernization roadmaps that enable scalable, secure, interoperable, and AI-ready business capabilities across the enterprise. Operating within an Azure-first, Databricks-centric environment, the Senior Enterprise Architect provides leadership across enterprise applications, cloud platforms, data platforms, lake house architectures, artificial intelligence solutions, machine learning platforms, automation technologies, APIs, integration services, and digital products. The role is accountable for ensuring all technology investments align with enterprise architecture principles, cybersecurity requirements, regulatory obligations, operational objectives, and business strategy. As a data-first and AI-first organization, the Sr. Architect, Enterprise is responsible for driving the evolution of enterprise data architecture, data products, canonical data models, AI-ready information assets, intelligent automation platforms, and modern integration capabilities that support analytics, machine learning, generative AI, agentic AI, robotic process automation (RPA), and enterprise decision intelligence. The position partners closely with executive leadership, business stakeholders, software engineering, data engineering, cloud engineering, cybersecurity, compliance, analytics, and operational teams to ensure that technology solutions are scalable, resilient, governed, and aligned with enterprise strategic objectives.
Responsibilities

Serve as the organization's principal architecture authority across enterprise applications, data platforms, AI platforms, integrations, cloud services, and digital products.
- Develop and maintain enterprise architecture principles, standards, reference architectures, governance frameworks, and target-state roadmaps.
- Establish and govern technology standards supporting software engineering, data engineering, cloud engineering, integration engineering, and AI initiatives.
- Lead architecture review boards and provide architectural oversight for strategic technology initiatives.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and develop recommendations supporting enterprise modernization, innovation, scalability, and operational efficiency.
- Drive technology rationalization efforts to reduce complexity, eliminate redundancy, and improve interoperability across enterprise systems.
- Define and govern enterprise data architecture strategy, including lake house architecture, data products, canonical data models, master data management, metadata management, and enterprise data governance.
- Establish enterprise standards for Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, DataOps, and AI-ready data platforms.
- Lead architecture decisions supporting machine learning, predictive analytics, generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector databases, semantic search, agentic AI, and intelligent automation.
- Define enterprise AI architecture standards including model governance, responsible AI, AI security, AI operations, and AI platform integration patterns.
- Guide the design of enterprise data products supporting analytics, automation, operational reporting, and business intelligence initiatives.
- Ensure enterprise data assets remain secure, governed, discoverable, reusable, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
- Define the enterprise intelligence architecture strategy supporting analytics, business intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, agentic AI, intelligent automation, and decision intelligence capabilities.
- Establish enterprise standards for AI-ready data products, semantic layers, knowledge management, vector stores, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), AI orchestration frameworks, and agent architecture.
- Design reference architectures for AI assistants, AI copilots, intelligent workflow automation, agentic AI solutions, predictive analytics, and enterprise decision support systems.
- Lead the implementation of enterprise AI platforms utilizing Azure AI Services, Azure OpenAI, Databricks AI, Azure Machine Learning, MLflow, vector databases, and related technologies.
- Define governance frameworks supporting responsible AI, model lifecycle management, AI security, model monitoring, explainability, and regulatory compliance.
- Partner with business leaders to identify opportunities to transform operational processes into intelligence-driven workflows utilizing AI, machine learning, automation, and advanced analytics.
- Establish architectural patterns supporting human-in-the-loop AI, autonomous agents, intelligent document processing, workflow orchestration, and enterprise automation.
- Guide the evolution from traditional reporting and analytics toward enterprise decision intelligence and AI-enabled business operations.
- Define enterprise standards for knowledge architecture, semantic search, document enrichment, embeddings, vectorization pipelines, and AI knowledge repositories.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies and establish enterprise adoption strategies that maximize business value while minimizing operational and regulatory risk.
- Establish architecture standards for enterprise applications, digital products, APIs, microservices, event-driven systems, and cloud-native solutions.
- Partner with engineering leadership to define modern software architecture patterns supporting scalability, maintainability, performance, and resiliency.
- Guide development teams in implementing modern engineering practices including API-first, cloud-native, event-driven, domain-driven design, and microservice architectures.
- Support modernization of legacy applications and migration toward cloud-native platforms and reusable enterprise services.
- Review solution designs and provide architectural direction throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Define enterprise integration architecture standards and patterns supporting internal and external system interoperability.
- Establish architecture frameworks supporting APIs, event streaming, healthcare data exchanges, SaaS integrations, and partner connectivity.
- Guide implementation of enterprise integration technologies including API Management, Event Hub, Event Grid, Service Bus, Logic Apps, and related services.
- Define canonical integration models supporting operational consistency across business domains.
- Partner with Cloud Engineering and DevOps leadership to establish cloud platform architecture standards.
- Guide architecture decisions involving Azure services, Kubernetes, Infrastructure-as-Code, observability platforms, security controls, and automation frameworks.
- Ensure enterprise platforms support resiliency, scalability, disaster recovery, security, and operational excellence requirements.
- Support cloud adoption and modernization strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
- Ensure architecture decisions align with cybersecurity standards, Zero Trust principles, privacy requirements, and compliance frameworks.
- Establish architecture controls supporting HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, NIST, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Lead architecture risk assessments and remediation planning for strategic initiatives.
- Support audit, governance, and compliance activities involving enterprise technology platforms.
- Partner with executive leadership to translate business strategy into technology strategy and architectural roadmaps.
- Mentor architects, engineers, technical leads, and managers on architecture principles and best practices.
- Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and technology evaluations.
- Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, investment prioritization, and technology roadmap development.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to business and technology leadership on enterprise architecture decisions.
- Participate in, adhere to, and support compliance, people and culture, and learning programs.

Qualifications

- Education: Bachelor's degree, preferably in the field of Computer Science, Information Systems, or Software Engineering, or equivalent work experience in the field of web development, required.
- Certification/Licenses: AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate or higher certification preferred.
- Experience:
- 12+ years of experience in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, software engineering, data architecture, or related disciplines required.
- 7+ years designing enterprise-scale architectures across application, integration, cloud, and data platforms required.
- Experience leading enterprise data architecture, lake house architecture, and modern analytics platform initiatives required.
- Experience supporting AI, machine learning, intelligent automation, and generative AI implementations required.
- Experience designing enterprise integration architectures utilizing APIs, event-driven systems, and cloud-native services required.
- Strong understanding of modern software engineering, DevOps, DataOps, and platform engineering practices required.
- Experience supporting regulated healthcare, pharmacy benefit management, financial services, or similarly regulated industries preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to influence executive stakeholders and drive enterprise-wide technology decisions.
- Demonstrated understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) required.
- Established SQL database development skills including design, architecture, and performance required.
- Understanding of source code management using Git or ADO required.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with technical teams to analyze business requirements and develop technical specifications required.
- Experience guiding developers in implementing technical designs required.
- Proven ability to interview end-users for insight on functionality, interface, problems, and/or usability issues required.
- Knowledge of healthcare industry practices, such as NCPDP, HIPAA, 508 compliance, and applicable data privacy practices preferred.
- Experience in pharmacy engineering and software design preferred.
- Experience working on a mature Scrum/Agile team preferred.
