About this Role - Director of Strategic Initiatives

We are looking for a talented Director of Strategic Initiatives who has a passion for quality construction. This position is responsible for directing the engineering, project management, and technical planning activities associated with MJE's most strategically significant new business ventures. This position serves as MJE's primary technical and project management resource for complex, multi-phase capital initiatives that require deep expertise in electric utility infrastructure, power systems engineering, and project execution.

The Director of Strategic Initiatives leads cross-functional technical teams and manages high-priority strategic projects from concept through operational launch. This role requires the ability to interface with customers, engineering teams, operations personnel, and executive leadership - translating complex technical requirements into executable project plans and driving those plans to completion.

What You'll Do

- Provide expert technical direction for complex, multi-phase strategic capital initiatives. Lead engineering and project management activities from planning through execution, ensuring technical requirements are met on schedule and within scope.

- Develop and maintain technical standards, design specifications, and approved equipment frameworks for MJE strategic initiatives, in coordination with operations leadership.

- Serve as MJE's primary technical interface on strategic project initiatives, obtaining technical specifications, design standards, and approved product requirements needed to advance project planning.

- Recruit, develop, and lead technical teams for MJE strategic initiatives. Establish competency requirements, hiring profiles, and onboarding frameworks for engineers, project managers, and technical specialists.

- Lead the technical specification of engineered components and equipment for strategic capital projects, consistent with customer technical requirements and applicable industry standards.

- Design and implement project management frameworks, scheduling methodologies, and execution standards for complex MJE strategic initiatives, from initiation through customer acceptance and delivery.

- Provide technical guidance to procurement teams for engineered component and equipment sourcing, including lead time planning, technical qualification, and specification compliance verification.

- Design and implement acceptance test and quality inspection procedures for complex engineered products and systems delivered as part of MJE strategic initiatives.

- Ensure all engineering designs and project deliverables comply with applicable ANSI, IEEE, NEMA, NERC, and customer-specific standards for electric utility infrastructure.

- Coordinate closely with MJE's field construction and operations teams to ensure strategic initiative designs and deliverables reflect field execution requirements and operational best practices.

- Provide regular technical and project management progress reporting to MJE Group leadership.

What You'll Bring

- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in electric utility engineering, power systems project management, or related technical leadership.

- Experience leading project management teams on complex multi-phase capital initiatives.

- Familiarity with utility customer procurement standards, approved vendor requirements, and technical specifications.

- Strong project management skills; PMP certification preferred.

- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field strongly preferred; equivalent experience considered.
