Construction Safety Specialist (EHS)

STRUCTURAL is the open-shop contracting business line of Structural Group.

We are seeking a motivated Safety Specialist to support and promote a strong safety culture across our projects. This role is ideal for early-career safety professionals looking to grow within construction and industrial environments while making a direct impact on jobsite safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assistingin the development of procedures for safety standards and best practices in a team environment through frequent interaction and open communication with managers, employees, subcontractors, and clients.

  • Conductingand coordinatingworker safety training in areas such as safety standardsand regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment for new and current employees.

  • Ensuringcompliance with SPS, OSHA, customer, state, and local regulations; and supports safety efforts to continuously improve overall site safety culture.

  • Workingunder the supervision of the SafetyManagerto conduct testing of air quality, noise, temperature, etc. to verify compliance with health and safety regulations.

  • Inspect work sites to ensure working conditions comply with OSHA, NY DOB, and company policies

  • Conducting risk assessments related to jobs performed by employees and suggesting risk mitigation strategies

  • Conduct respirator fit testing and maintain appropriate records

  • Participate in Frontline safety program (weekly update calls, observation reports, and other proactive safety tactics)

  • Participate in project planning discussions with emphasis on high-risk projects and high-risk or repetitive work tasks.

  • Conductinginteractive training to help field personnel acquire necessary skills/knowledge/certifications

  • Conduct all accident, incident and near-miss investigations

  • Workingwith jobsite personnel and project teams to perform root-cause analysts, evaluate information, and implement corrective solutions.

  • Maintains records and develops reports on new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness; prepares statistical reports as required.

  • Manage/ Facilitate Branch safety initiatives

  • Perform other duties, as assigned, in support of the EHS Strategic Plan.

Qualifications

  • Degree in EHS, Safety, Emergency Response, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 1-3 years of related safety experience in construction or industrial environments

  • OSHA 30 certification (or ability to obtain)

  • Additional certifications such as First Aid/CPR/AED, Confined Space, or Fall Protection are a plus

  • Previous field construction experience

Core Competencies

  • Strong understanding of construction safety standards and regulatory requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with field teams and leadership

  • Knowledge of hazard recognition and risk mitigation practices

  • Basic understanding of structural systems and construction methods

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management tools (e.g., Procore, SharePoint)

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
