General Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Plumbing Service Technician to join our team in San Antonio, Texas. This role is responsible for performing diagnostics, repairs, and routine maintenance on residential and light commercial plumbing systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in plumbing practices, excellent problem-solving ability, and a proven commitment to exceptional customer service. Key Responsibilities Service Calls & Diagnostics Respond promptly to service requests for residential and light commercial plumbing systems Diagnose plumbing issues using proper tools and inspection techniques Identify problems related to water pressure, leaks, clogs, backflow, and fixture malfunctions Conduct system tests to determine necessary repairs or component replacements Routine Maintenance Perform preventative maintenance including flushing water heaters, checking pressure regulators, inspecting piping, and testing sump pumps Inspect and maintain plumbing fixtures, valves, traps, and water filtration systems Provide seasonal system checks for freeze protection and water heater efficiency Repair, Replacement & Installation Repair or replace components such as water heaters, faucets, toilets, valves, disposals, and piping Install plumbing systems for remodels or light commercial applications according to codes and specifications Ensure proper connections, testing for leaks and system integrity Customer Communication & Service Communicate clearly and respectfully with customers regarding plumbing issues and proposed solutions Offer guidance on proper system care, water-saving practices, and maintenance plan options Build trust and long-term relationships through professionalism and follow-through Documentation & Reporting Accurately document all service activity, including diagnostics, repairs, and parts used Complete work orders, service tickets, and reports using mobile software or paper forms as required Safety, Compliance & Environmental Practices Adhere to all safety regulations and company procedures on job sites Safely handle and dispose of materials such as old piping, water heater components, and sealants Comply with local, state, and federal plumbing codes and environmental standards Team Collaboration & Scheduling Work closely with dispatchers and fellow technicians to coordinate service calls and manage workload Support and mentor junior technicians or apprentices as needed Contribute to a positive team culture focused on excellence and continuous improvement Minimum Education None Minimum Years of Experience 2-4 Specific Qualifications Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Minimum of 2 years' experience servicing residential and/or light commercial plumbing systems Strong understanding of plumbing systems, including water supply, drainage, gas lines, water heaters, and fixture installation Proficient with plumbing tools and diagnostic equipment such as pipe inspection cameras, pressure gauges, pipe threaders, and leak detectors Familiarity with local plumbing codes, safety regulations, and permit procedures Excellent communication and customer service skills Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple service calls Must pass a background check and drug screening Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs on a regular basis Comfortable working in a variety of conditions including crawl spaces, attics, basements, rooftops, and confined areas Capable of standing, bending, kneeling, or climbing ladders for extended periods Willingness to work in environments with dust, dirt, heat, moisture, and occasional odors Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively while maintaining situational awareness License Required Yes Job Locations US-TX-San Antonio Company Overview IES is a national provider of industrial products and infrastructure services to a variety of end markets, including electrical, mechanical and communications contracting solutions for the commercial, industrial, residential and renewable energy markets.
