Now Hiring: On-Call Behavioral Health Technician - Washington, DC

The hourly range for this position is $23.07 per hour. Please note that the hourly rate may vary depending on the location of the assignment and specific program requirements.

Position Description: The On-Call Behavioral Health Technician provides direct support and behavioral health services to individuals experiencing mental health challenges and behavioral health crises. This position delivers mental health interventions, service coordination, crisis stabilization, and assistance with activities of daily living to promote client safety, stability, and recovery. The On-Call Behavioral Health Technician supports diversion services at Jordan House by assisting clients as an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization and providing a therapeutic, recovery-oriented environment.

The position also provides stabilization support for Mary Claire clients as needed, helping individuals access appropriate resources, maintain community placement, and work toward their recovery goals. This role collaborates with clinical and program staff to monitor client well-being, document services, support program operations, and respond effectively to behavioral health needs during assigned shifts.

Required: Bachelor's Degree; 1-2 years' experience working with Mental Health issues or in a Social Work setting. DC license required if bachelor's degree is in Social Work.

Required License/Certification: Driver's License, CPR/First Aid

Schedule: Varied; as needed schedule, to include evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Knowledge of how mental health symptoms impact human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, learning and motivation.
  • Ability to build strong therapeutic rapport with diverse clients using active listening and a service orientation.
  • Ability to analyze multiple sources of information in making sound decisions and solving problems.
  • Organized with an attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate relevant information to supervisiors and co-workers.
  • Able to implement complex interventions under the clinical supervision of independantly licensed mental health professionals.
  • Ability to set professional and therapeutic boundaries.
  • Problem sensitivity-the ability to anticipate problems that might arise so steps can be taken to problem-solve them.
  • Ability to maintain calm under pressure and contribute to de-escalation of crisis situations.
  • Flexibility with the abiltiy to multi-task, despite competing priorities
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
