How You'll Make an Impact

Works with producers and members of the programming team to create superior radio programs for Doctor Radio, a medical channel in partnership with NYU Medical Center. Supports creative processes, content development and production. Exercises both creative abilities and technical skills. Edits materials and operates an audio board. May be assigned to more than one program and perform slightly different functions across programs.

What you'll do:

Pre-Production

  • Assists in the development of content for shows. (e.g., researching topics, drafting segment outlines, and proposing sound/clip concepts).
  • Develops novel and creative ways to present content. Identifies opportunities to refresh recurring segments and improve pacing to match audience needs.
  • Attends creative meetings and contributes to the selection of program content. Brings forward data points, listener feedback, and prior show learnings to inform decisions.
  • Works with the programming team to identify and select celebrity, expert and lifestyle guests. Coordinates guest logistics and ensures required pre-interview materials are captured and shared.
  • Obtains audio materials needed for production. Ensures usage/attribution requirements are captured and flags any potential rights or compliance concerns.
  • Assists with scheduling program elements prior to air, ensuring that rotation and policies are followed. Owns assigned segments within the rundown and confirms timing, transitions, and required elements are ready for air.

Production

  • Runs the audio board for various live and taped programs and edits audio for on-air use. Independently makes real-time adjustments to maintain consistent levels and clean transitions.
  • Determines the appropriate mix of sound elements for assigned shows and ensures that levels are mixed properly. Exercises judgment to balance voice, clips, music beds, and live callers within established show standards.
  • Dubs sound from a variety of sources (e.g., CD, DAT, LP, etc.). Validates source quality and selects the best available version for broadcast.
  • Enters clip information, music and non-music elements into audio software. Maintains accurate metadata and naming conventions to enable fast retrieval and reuse.
  • Loads and deletes clips, and rips and edits promos and spots. Ensures promos/spots meet timing requirements and are correctly placed within the programming clock.
  • Ensures that on-air product is up to broadcast standards before it leaves the studios. Performs final checks (levels, fades, timing, and intelligibility) and proactively escalates issues before air.
  • Ensures that sound equipment is functioning properly during shows. Troubleshoots common studio/audio issues in the moment and coordinates with engineering when needed; documents recurring issues and resolutions.
  • Works with talent and Producers on following programming clocks so that all content and advertisements are featured as planned. Provides real-time timing cues and recommends adjustments to preserve required elements while protecting the listener experience.

Post-Production

  • Reviews work products with supervisor. Incorporates feedback quickly and applies learnings to future edits and board work.
  • Monitors assigned channels for quality control and reports content error and technical issues to the appropriate individuals for correction. Tracks issues to resolution and shares root-cause notes to prevent repeats.
  • Edits audio (e.g., inserts additional clips, sound bites, etc.). Delivers polished final files that meet format and loudness expectations for distribution.
  • Maintains database of program content for archival use. Curates and organizes content to support reuse, compliance requests, and internal searchability.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • May be required to fill in for producers on occasion. Owns defined show elements end-to-end when filling in, including guest coordination, rundown execution, and post-show handoffs.
  • May lead the work of production assistants, board operators and interns. Provides day-to-day task guidance on studio procedures and quality standards (no formal people management).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, relevant experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience at a radio station or audio production facility.
  • Excellent creative writing and communication skills for radio.
  • Strong interest in current events and pop culture, as related to assigned channels/programs.
  • Comfortable working with talent, artists and high-profile individuals.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with staff at all levels.
  • Spelling, grammar, proofreading and editing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to pay attention to details and be organized.
  • Ability to project professionalism over the phone and in person.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to "internal client" and customer service principles.
  • Willingness to take initiative and to follow through on projects.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and work under shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in: Microsoft Office, Zetta, Adobe Audition.
  • Mixing sound elements into a professional sounding product.
  • Operating an audio board.
  • Consistently applies established on-air standards and demonstrates sound judgment in identifying issues and escalating appropriately.
  • Comfortable partnering with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., programming, studio operations/engineering, and NYU Medical Center partners) to deliver assigned show elements.
  • Must have legal right to work in the U.S.

At SiriusXM, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including your background and experience. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary. We expect the annual salary for this this position to be between $50,000 and $52,100 and will depend on your skills, qualifications, and experience. We encourage all interested candidates to apply.
