Job Summary : To develop and implement policies and procedures for the department adhering to the guidelines set forth by AAI, OSHA, and HFAP. To act as a resource person for sterilization techniques for the staff and other departmental areas within the organization. To facilitate duties performed by the Central Sterile staff through continuing education and in-services. To assign and schedule staff so they may perform and function to their fullest capabilities.Job Description Essential Responsibilities: Fiscal Responsibility 1.Completes assignment within time frame delegated.

Quality 1. Interacts as a team player and participates in continuous quality improvement activities within the department and organization, supporting HRH and department QI plan including Peer Review, data gathering, and change process. 2. Performs daily quality control checks of equipment and processed supplies to insure that work assignments are completed. 3. Works closely with nursing departments and Infection Control to ensure that procedures for the handling and transporting of equipment utilized on patients are met. 4. Assists in the completion of performance evaluations; provides feedback and counseling related to performance/attendance; and maintains documentation of disciplinary actions. 5. Makes recommendations for personnel changes to the Director. 6. Conducts and supervised the training of new associates. 7. Initiates work order for equipment/instruments repair as needed. Patient Satisfaction 1. Collaborates with other health care providers regarding the plan of intra-operative cares, including instrument/supply set up prior to case. 2. Maintain professional environment and keep noise to a minimum at all times. 3. Exemplifies excellent guests' relations to patients, visitors, and physicians and co-workers. Patient Safety 1. Responsible for accurate and meticulous documentation of all sterilizer charts, record books, and biological records. 2.Initiates product recall, when required. 3. Implements instrument and equipment trials as needed. Professional Growth 1. Shares knowledge and skills with colleagues and others including orientation and cross-training. 2. Demonstrates leadership and is a role mode and resource for peers as a super user, or preceptor. 3. Identifies professional needs and collaborates with management for learning opportunities for self and unit. 4. Participates in development and implementation of departmental goals and attends product and practice change in-services. Customer Service 1. Establish and Maintains strong relationships with all customers, focusing on physicians, provider practices, anesthesia and public. 2. Coordinates dispatching and processing of equipment and supplies to various hospital departments and offsite facilities. 3. Acts as a resource person for new physicians between the Operating Room and Central Sterile. 4. Engages patient, family, and significant others through the practice of AIDET (Acknowledge, Identify, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) Education/Experience: Previous supervisory and sterile processing experience preferred. RN, LPN, or Certified Surgical Tech with 10 plus years of CSS experience strongly considered. License or Certification: Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) required.
