Job Summary-

**The hourly rate for this position is $35.41/hour**

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, a premier provider of ordnance weapons and tactical systems to the U.S. Department of Defense and allied nations, is seeking Machinist's to join our Saco Operations team. We are about supporting the mission of the warfighter. Our products can be found with every U.S. Military branch with allies around the world. We are looking for motivated and creative individuals who want to help shape and support this organization.

The NC Miller #1 will operate, and set up multiaxis numerical control (NC) and computer numerical control (CNC) machining centers.



Responsibilities-

Performs any combination of machining operations such as milling, facing, threading, drilling, reaming, and profiling of metal castings, forgings, bar stock, etc. May operate and maintain set up of welding machines, or robots that weld. Follows established company directives, policies, military specifications, quality documents and manufacturing instructions.

Establish reference points as they relate to the workpiece tape, (Memory) interface. Bolt fixtures to machine beds and tables. Positions workpiece in fixtures and secures part. May insert precision indicator in machine spindle, depress switches to jog spindle into contact with fixture and/or workpiece, synchronize tape and tool, and record set-up point.

Maintains and corrects if necessary fixture and tooling "offsets." Perform minor set-ups and changeovers on work of a repetitive nature. Turn dials to index cutting tools to specified set point as necessary. Observe metal cutting action. Compares numerical data displays with specification on operations sheet. May operate machine on preliminary dry run before machining first part to detect errors in program.

Interpret process sheets, drawings, and tool sheets to determine correct axial and radial positioning of tools in respective tool holders. Verifies that gages are in working order and are not overdue for calibration. Verify the conformance of machined workpiece to specifications using fixed gages, microhite, surface plates, dial gages, micrometers, dial calipers, go and no-go gages, etc. Notify supervisor, or designate, of discrepancies.

Practices safety and good housekeeping policies and procedures. Perform operator tasks according to the machine's process maintenance checklist to ensure that the machine is in proper working order, and to record information as instructed.



Qualifications-

A Practical Test will be requires as part of the Hiring Process.

Education, Training, and/or Certifications:

Required:

    High school diploma or G.E.D. required. Associates degree or technical college preferred.

Experience:

Required:

  • Employee must have basic computer skills, and may be required to enter and verify information into written forms or database(s) as appropriate.
  • Over four (4) years. Requires technical training equivalent to four (4) years high school plus apprenticeship or trade school background.

Required:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledgeable of computerized control systems used on assigned CNC Milling Machines.
  • Must be capable of properly using a precision tool presetter. Must be knowledgeable of cutting tool wear and resulting effects on workpiece and cutters during discussions with machine operators and engineers.

Skills: Experienced with keyboard and control panel functions that control the various machining operations and CRT display modes.
