YOUR ROLE
As a Lab Operations Member of Technical Staff (LabOps MTS), on our team, you'll provide internal support for Wind River's engineering, development, sales, and support teams. We manage reliable labs, cloud environments, networks, systems, remote access, and embedded devices that enable engineering and test teams to develop and test software globally, ensuring 24/7 accessibility.
This Oakland data center based position focuses primarily on building, supporting, Wind River Linux and eLxr Linux products. Additionally, you will be helping manage cloud lab environments, VxWorks, Helix Hypervisor, sales and Professional Services teams, and embedded systems. Typical tasks include setup and configuration of embedded boards and servers, including networking, system racking, cabling, console connectivity, iDRAC/BMC/iLO configuration and firmware/BIOS config and updates). You would manage system inventory through NetBox and other tools as well as network diagramming of systems and connections.
The role also involves managing remote access for engineering teams and configuring network boot environments. While the focus is on Oakland labs, occasional support for the Walnut Creek lab and our other global sites is expected.

Success in this position requires strong debugging skills, dexterity, creativity, collaboration, and a continual drive to learn and improve. The work can be physically active at times-you should be comfortable unboxing, lifting, and installing targets, servers and lab infrastructure as required.
In your daily job you will:
* Support Wind River Linux target systems and eLxr Linux server environments.
* Build and maintain cloud lab environments per engineering requirements.
* Design, build, and document network configurations (L2/L3, IPv4/IPv6) for cloud and embedded labs using Ethernet, DAC, and fiber connections. Manage complex network configurations with multicast, VLAN, VXLAN, OSPF and other protocols.
* Cable, configure and debug GPS and PTP timing systems.
* Set up and maintain servers through iDRAC, BMC, iLO, and related interfaces; manage firmware, BIOS, remote consoles, and SOL connections. Update as required.
* Connect and document all network interfaces and other cabling in detail.
* Follow safety practices when working with ladders, pallets, and heavy systems (ask for help when necessary).
* Add and maintain detailed hardware and connectivity inventory in NetBox and other lab tools using Linux CLI commands and data collection scripts.
* Update and manage IPv4 and IPv6 DNS (BIND) records for infrastructure and devices.
* Provide excellent customer support and assistance for all lab users.
* Install and support embedded targets, managing firmware, and BIOS updates; handle static-sensitive devices with care. Enable remote access via (USB) serial console and/or KVM. Support devices with BIOS, U-Boot, VxWorks boot loaders (Some labs require restricted security clearances, with strict access, data protection and you would need to meet specific citizenship requirements.)
* Configure Redfish, LLDP, VXLAN, and port-channels as required. Provide new switch configurations.
* Demonstrate strong Linux command-line skills and familiarity with standard CLI tools.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
Key skills and competencies for succeeding in this role are:
* Computer Science, Computer Networking, Lab Management, Electrical Engineering, or IT degree/diploma
* Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership, commitment, and quality.
* 8+ years of relevant experience with computers, networking, lab infrastructure, racks and embedded systems.
* Strong networking background with L2 and L3 protocols, to configure and support Ethernet networks. (Helpful VXLAN, PTP) Be familiar with RedFish, PXE and DHCP booting of various systems.
* Ability to build and support GPS cabling (typically N and SMA interfaces).
* Ability to debug issues with a multimeter (DMM) or oscilloscope.
* Work carefully with delicate and ESD-sensitive devices and electronics.
* Have broad exposure to hardware, firmware, and networking technologies.
* Experience with electronics, network interfaces, embedded systems, desktop computers, and server hardware.
* Comfortable researching technical information independently.
* Motivation to find solutions but know when to collaborate and seek input.
* Physically capable of unboxing, installing, and maintaining lab equipment.
* Safety-conscious and use good computer security practices.
* Proficient in creating clear network diagrams and configuration documentation.
* Mechanically inclined, with experience using hand tools, soldering and test equipment.
* Familiarity with Confluence, NetBox, Jira, GitLab, SharePoint, Visio, and Dell networking.
* Passionate about technology and continuous learning, fostering knowledge sharing within the team.
* Have a positive attitude, be eager to share findings and work well with others.
