The Dean's Office in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) at UMKC is seeking a Senior Office Support Assistant (SOSA) to join their team. This individual will work closely with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs. The SHSS is home to ten departments and more than 25 academic degree options providing students with a curriculum that spans the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Our students leave the School of Humanities and Social Sciences with a thorough understanding of the world around them.

Job Description

The Senior Office Support Assistant provides general administrative and office support to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences including a variety of responsibilities such as support for students, communication support, and assisting the Associate Deans.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate internship activities in the unit by collaborating with department coordinators; planning and executing the internship fair; etc.
  • Coordinate career-oriented activities in the unit by operating as the liaison to Career Services; research and communicate best practices for career-oriented activities; plan and support career-oriented events; etc.
  • Collaborate with Strategic Marketing and Communications on content and visibility for social media channels.
  • Plan and execute student ceremonies and events on behalf of the School.
  • Student support including Latin honors, graduation lists, etc.
  • Provide Associate Dean support including communications with students and faculty on behalf of the Associate Dean; assist with special projects, etc.
  • Provide administrative support for the Dean's Office including office management, phone answering, staff onboarding, temporary department assistance, space resetting, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Shift

This is a full-time, non-exempt, benefit eligible staff position.

This position will be on campus five days per week, Monday - Friday.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Respect for the confidentiality of sensitive processes and the ability to maintain confidentiality in daily processes
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Proficiency in standard office software (Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel)
  • Ability to work independently with little guidance
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Evidence of proactive approach to initiatives
  • Ability to conduct independent research at the direction of the Associate Dean
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $17.05 - $24.00 per hour.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
