Under the direction of the Clinical Operations Administrator and in collaboration with Chiefs of Dentistry and Oral Surgery, Neurology, Soft Tissue Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, the Advanced Veterinary Surgical Center, and the VMTH Operating Rooms, the Manager of Small Animal Clinical Services provides strategic and operational leadership across multiple specialty services. This role ensures delivery of high-quality patient care while advancing service efficiency, safety, and fiscal stewardship. The Manager is responsible for personnel supervision, resource and budget management, clinical process improvement, and professional development of staff, with a focus on minimizing medical errors, improving workflow efficiency, and supporting the teaching, clinical, and research missions of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH).

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.
- No minimum education required.
- Experience supervising staff in a hospital, veterinary specialty or emergency service setting, including negotiating conflicting demands for competing resources and addressing staff training needs in specific skills in a complex and dynamic clinical setting.
- Experience communicating with a diverse group of people including clients, clinicians, referring veterinarians, students, and staff in an accurate, professional and collegial manner.
- Experience working independently or as part of a team to coordinate, facilitate, set up equipment and supplies, troubleshoot and anticipate needs for activities in assigned areas in an accurate, efficient and timely manner.
- Oral and written communication skills with a diverse group of people, including clients, clinicians, referring veterinarians, students and staff in regard to veterinary care and operative management of small animal patients.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of University Policy and Procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and VMTH policies.
- Skills to maintain inventory of appropriate supplies for anesthesia and surgery.
- Skills to investigate and oversee the investigation of alleged quality assurance infractions and to recognize emergency situations and follow emergency treatment protocols in an efficient manner.

VMTH serves as a teaching hospital for professional veterinary students, interns, residents, and graduate academic students, while providing advanced veterinary care to the public and functioning as a regional referral center. Work Environment
UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
