Under the direction of the Communications Specialist, closely support the marketing and national reputation priorities of stakeholders including two department chairs and directors of the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) and National Center for Interventional Biophotonic Technologies (NCIBT) and the CAO.

In partnership with Public Affairs and Marketing, implement marketing and communications programs based upon strategies developed by Public Affairs and Marketing and/or department leadership for the Departments of Neurology and Neurological Surgery and the ADRC and NCIBT.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Design and/or related subjects, and/or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience designing and implementing marketing plans with clear goals, deliverables and deadlines.
  • Digital and graphic design experience.
  • Experience utilizing analytics and data to improve marketing strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and establishing priorities to meet multiple deadlines, organize workow and work with minimal general direction.
  • Experience with Adobe CS, MS Oce Suite including Excel and PowerPoint and website content management systems.
  • Previous experience with all aspects of social media communications; this includes a firm understanding of social media channels and digital platforms and their respective audiences (LinkedIn, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky, etc.) as well as the ability to create and implement long and short-term social media marketing/communication plans.
  • Experience researching media trends and competitor activity.
  • Experience utilizing short-form video editing software.
  • Demonstrated outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and positively with stakeholders to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrated skills to design social media graphics, booklets, flyers, etc., including demonstrated skills using Adobe CS or similar industry standard program suites.
  • Ability to implement marketing communications principles, practices and trends.
  • Ability to quickly learn new software and applications.
  • Ability to translate creative or scientific ideas into engaging content.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience implementing digital marketing and communications strategies, including audience targeting/segmenting.
  • Project management skills and experience.
  • Scientific writing experience.
  • Experience working effectively and competently with a culturally diverse workforce and constituency.
  • Knowledge of UC, UC Davis and UC Davis School of Medicine mission, priorities and programs as well as campus business systems and practices.
  • Knowledge of UC Davis Health branding and design guidelines.

Department Overview

The Department of Neurology conducts basic and clinical research on the nervous system and provides clinical care for people with neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, epilepsy, movement disorders like Parkinson's and Huntington's diseases, tremor, dystonia, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular conditions, headache and sleep disorders. Our faculty includes leading neuroscientists, who work to expand our knowledge of nervous system function, as well as neurologists and psychologists who provide diagnosis and treatment for adults and children. We partner with colleagues from throughout the health system and work closely with the Department of Neurological Surgery to provide multidisciplinary team management for neurological disorders. We also offer cutting-edge diagnostic approaches, including advanced neuroimaging technologies and access to trials of new medications and other therapeutic modalities.
