Summary:

Transports patients to their inpatient bed and/or to and from other areas such as admitting, surgery, therapy or radiology in a safe and timely manner. Retrieves medical records, lab results, supplies and medications as required. Prioritizes duties to facilitate department flow. Maintains and cleans equipment.

Responsibilities:


  • Transports patients safely between hospital departments for procedures, testing, admissions, and discharges.
  • Assists patients onto stretchers, wheelchairs, or beds and ensures safe positioning during transport.
  • Communicates with nursing and clinical staff to coordinate patient transport requests.
  • Ensures patient identification is verified prior to transport according to established procedures.
  • Transports medical equipment, supplies, and other materials as needed.
  • Monitors patient comfort and safety during transport and reports concerns to clinical staff.
  • Maintains cleanliness and readiness of transport equipment including wheelchairs and stretchers.
  • Follows infection control procedures and safety protocols.
  • Maintains courteous and professional communication with patients, families, and staff.
  • Assists with maintaining an organized and safe patient transport environment.

Requirements:

Education/Skills


  • High School Diploma or GED required, or
  • In lieu of a High School Diploma or GED, two (2) years of relevant work experience above the minimum qualification

Experience


  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in healthcare support, patient transport, customer service, or a related service role preferred.
  • Ability to safely transport patients using wheelchairs, stretchers, and hospital beds.
  • Knowledge of basic patient safety and handling techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with patients and healthcare staff.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and patient identification protocols.
  • Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in a healthcare environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professional conduct.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications


  • BLS
