What to Expect
The Instrumentation and Controls Construction Superintendent will be responsible for supervising the Installation of Instrumentation and Controls Construction scopes in our Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. We have very tight schedules with the goal to make our team efficient and effective while our factory is developed.

What You'll Do
  • Review contract drawings for technical accuracy and alignment with field conditions
  • Collaborate with construction managers, engineers, and contractors to plan and execute controls fieldwork, ensuring schedule, budget, and compliance with Tesla/OSHA standards
  • Coordinate with suppliers on material procurement, delivery timelines, hardware needs, dispute resolution, and seamless project delivery
  • Ensure proper installation of field instruments, control valves, devices, panels (including PLCs), life safety systems, VFDs, instrumentation, and automation per design drawings and schedules
  • Oversee setup, calibration, troubleshooting, and handover of field control systems (wiring, sensors, valves, hardware) to minimize downtime and optimize performance
  • Work with Tesla QA team to inspect completed work, verify system integrations, and document activities including as-built drawings and CxAlloy checklists
  • Provide field support during system outages/failovers and collaborate on preventive maintenance schedules and upgrade recommendations

What You'll Bring
  • 8+ years of Instrumentation and Controls Construction or equivalent field experience
  • Knowledge of P&IDs, instrument lists, cable/conduit schedules, manufacturer wiring diagrams, and technical controls specifications
  • Experience with control valve installations, tubing sizing, actuator selection (pneumatic/electric), body styles, troubleshooting, maintenance, and PLC integration
  • Experience with analyzers, gas detectors, calibration, installation/commissioning, sensor troubleshooting, safety system integration (e.g., SIS), and hazardous area compliance (ATEX/NEC)
  • Ability to understand electrical schematics, power distribution, and hazardous area classifications
  • Strong understanding of NEMA standards for control panels and NEC standards for field wiring
  • Familiarity with PLC architecture, networking, and panel wiring (Siemens PLC knowledge a plus)
