Job Description




As a Security Officer - Substation Rover in Columbus, OH, you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Utilities, Cultural Institutions, and more. As an unarmed Patrol Officer with Allied Universal, you will monitor and patrol outdoor public spaces and nearby infrastructure, staying highly visible to help deter security-related incidents and support a welcoming guest experience. You will complete routine foot patrols, document observations, respond to calls for assistance, and communicate clearly with visitors, staff, and local partners. What You'll Do:

  • Provide customer service to visitors, staff, vendors, and/or contractors by carrying out security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities.
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, including coordinating with site management and public emergency services when needed.
  • Conduct regular and random patrols of outdoor grounds, walkways, parking areas, and perimeter points to help to identify and report unusual activity, hazards, and/or maintenance concerns. Working environments and conditions may vary by location.
  • Monitor access points, gates, and/or service areas; assist with visitor directions and general information while supporting site rules and posted requirements.
  • Observe utility-related assets and service corridors during patrols, documenting and reporting signs of tampering, damage, leaks, and/or unauthorized access.
  • Support cultural and public-use areas by providing a visible presence during events and peak hours, assisting with line management, area closures, and/or rerouting foot traffic as directed by site leadership.
  • Complete routine and incident reports with accurate details, including activity logs, patrol documentation, and follow-up information for management review.
  • Use radios, phones, and/or other communications equipment to maintain contact with Allied Universal leadership and site representatives, escalating concerns according to post orders.
  • Assist with emergency procedures such as evacuations, severe weather response, and/or medical response by notifying appropriate resources and providing scene information.
  • Perform access control and contractor check-in activities when assigned, including verifying authorization and directing deliveries to approved locations.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, supporting a customer-focused environment while following Allied Universal standards and site policies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver's license will be required for driving positions only.
