Position description

Junior Specialist (Dr. Carissa Chu Lab)

A Junior Specialist position is currently available for employment in the lab of Dr. Carissa Chu at the University of California, San Francisco in the Helen Diller Family Cancer Research Building (at the Mission Bay campus). Research will involve improving pre-clinical models to study treatment resistance to novel targeted therapies in both prostate and bladder cancer. The role of the Specialist is to both assist with ongoing experiments and, depending on the candidate's skill level, conduct independent research under the guidance of Dr. Chu and other members of the Chu Lab. The candidate will have the opportunity to publish their research in preeminent scientific journals such as Cell, Nature, Cancer Cell, and Molecular Cell. Required Qualifications:



  • Must have a Bachelor's degree or have at least four years of research experience in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, and/or Molecular and Cellular Biology at the time of hire.
  • Previous lab experience and a willingness to learn new methods and skills for changing research priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate work tasks with others, and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Applicant's materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Proficiency in MS Office and experience using Flowjo, Image Lab, Prism Graphpad, ImageJ, Ssnapgene, Benchling, Adobe Illustrator Candidates with previous experience with bacterial cloning, qPCR, in situ hybridization, Flow cytometry, immunofluorescence microscopy, gel electrophoresis, and western blots are strongly preferred.
  • Applicants will be effective communicator, detail-oriented and organized, able to take the initiative to address research issues, work independently, and collaborate well with other members of the lab.
  • A two-year commitment is highly preferred.
