Director of Projects, School of Medicine

The University of Virginia School of Medicine (SOM) seeks a Director of Projects to serve as a key member of the Dean's leadership team. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Finance & Administration, this highly visible role partners closely with the Dean, the Dean's Cabinet, and senior leaders across SOM to coordinate, advance, and execute strategic initiatives and priority projects.

The Director of Projects provides leadership and operational support across a wide range of administrative, academic, and clinical functions. This role plays a central part in policy and bylaws development and interpretation, manages senior leadership transactions in Workday, and serves as the primary point of contact for high-priority and ad hoc initiatives critical to the School's mission, while maintaining absolute confidentiality. As such, this self-directed role must frequently reprioritize to ensure critical items are addressed timely.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with university and SOM stakeholders to research complex issues, analyze data, and provide leadership with actionable insights to support informed decision-making.
• Supervise the Executive Assistant for the School of Medicine Dean
• Lead and advance a broad portfolio of initiatives, programs, and projects; manage priorities, agendas, and timelines; and track progress to ensure measurable outcomes.
• Maintain current knowledge of relevant university and SOM policies, procedures, and compliance requirements and serve on school and institutional policy and bylaw committees.
• Build strong partnerships with administrative and academic units across the institution.
• Serve as a liaison between Human Resources and the Dean on sensitive and confidential matters related to senior leadership recruitment, performance management, compensation, and organizational changes.
• Support and, as needed, manage annual institutional initiatives (e.g., salary planning, performance evaluations) to ensure alignment with university and School of Medicine strategic goals.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Dean's Office and SOM leadership.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree

Experience: Eight years of increasingly responsible experience. Master's degree is typical and may substitute for some experience. Relevant exempt level experience may substitute for a degree.

Licensure: None

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in business, accounting, or a related discipline preferred.
• At least five years of progressively responsible leadership experience.
• Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication.
• Proven ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders at all organizational levels and to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

The anticipated hiring range is $95,000-$115,000, commensurate with education and experience. This is an exempt-level, benefited position. Learn more about UVA benefits. This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
