Job duties include teaching 12 credit hours per semester at the undergraduate level, contributing to service activities in the department, the college, and the university, and demonstrating continued professional development.

Required qualifications include : an MA, PhD or other related terminal degree in Spanish or a related field; native or near-native proficiency in Spanish; excellent skills in spoken and written English; a demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses in Spanish language at the elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels, as well as upper-level Spanish courses in at least one of the following areas: Spanish or Latin American civilization, culture, literature, linguistics, translation/interpreting, and Spanish for Specific Purposes (Medical, Legal, Business). Successful candidates must be able to teach undergraduate courses face-to-face, online (synchronously and asynchronously), and/or in blended situations (online instruction that supports face-to-face instruction).

Preferred qualifications include: a demonstrated ability to teach upper- level Spanish courses in more than one of the following areas: Spanish or Latin American civilization, culture, literature, linguistics, translation/interpreting, and Spanish for Specific Purposes (Medical, Legal, Business); demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate a variety of extracurricular cultural experiences for students; demonstrated ability to contribute to community engagement activities. Teaching experience in higher education is preferred.

Finalists will be asked to discuss how their teaching practices engage, include, and eliminate barriers to learning for UNC Charlotte students, and how their educational approach helps increase the engagement and success of all students regardless of their entry pathway into the university.
