Job Description
As the Operations Planning Manager, you'll oversee all planning functions-including raw materials, production scheduling, inventory control, and shipping/receiving-to ensure the facility consistently meets customer service expectations.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
Lead with Safety
Demonstrate safety-first leadership and partner with the EHS Manager to maintain a safe work environment through effective policies, programs, and employee engagement. Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, storage, and transportation regulations. Promote a strong safety culture by attending required training, reporting hazards, and reinforcing PPE compliance.
Drive Operational Excellence
Collaborate with Customer Service and Sales to prioritize demand and ensure plant capacity aligns with customer requirements. Lead cost-savings and efficiency-improvement initiatives across planning and manufacturing operations. Support Continuous Improvement efforts to enhance scheduling accuracy, material flow, and overall throughput.
Supervise & Develop Talent
Provide clear expectations and development opportunities for department personnel. Manage all supervisory responsibilities including hiring, training, performance management, recognition, and corrective action. Utilize strong performance management practices to grow team capability and engagement.
Optimize Production Planning & Scheduling
Oversee order scheduling to ensure on-time shipment; communicate delays promptly to Customer Service. Review machine backlogs frequently and partner with Production Planners to balance workloads. Maintain strong daily communication with Manufacturing Supervisors regarding current and upcoming schedules.
Inventory & Materials Management
Maintain optimal inventory levels to meet customer demand while minimizing carrying and transportation costs. Supervise logistics functions, including storage, handling, and disposition of raw materials and finished goods. Review and reduce aged inventory through targeted action plans. Act as backup for scheduling, material planning, and logistics supervision.
Data Accuracy & Reporting
Ensure accuracy of BOM and MRP data, including routings, standards, and machine/order statuses; provide updates, feedback, and team training as needed. Analyze and prepare daily, weekly, and monthly planning and performance reports (backlog, capacity, variance, ontime delivery, inventory, reruns, etc.). Conduct rootcause analyses and develop Pareto reporting for missed production orders.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Participate in daily and weekly production meetings, providing clear visibility into backlog and planning concerns. Collaborate with technical and manufacturing teams to resolve issues and maintain strong manufacturing practices. Support cross-functional project teams focused on plant-wide efficiency and cost reduction. Calculate/estimate material requirements and determine economic order quantities for planned projects and purchases.
System & Process Management
Coordinate and maintain accurate MRP system data to enable effective planning. Serve as a knowledgeable resource for materials management, production planning, and customer service-related planning functions.

Required:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or related field. Minimum 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience. 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, production planning, scheduling, or operations management. Demonstrated knowledge of operations planning, material management, and customer service. Lean Six Sigma training: Green Belt certification or willingness to obtain. Training or coursework in leadership, safety, quality, and problem-solving methodologies. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ERP systems such as SAP.
