As an Associate Software Engineer you will apply your knowledge and experience to real world problems, and seek to utilize Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and related technologies to reduce the cost of healthcare and improve health quality and outcomes. With access to dedicated on premise and cloud based big data solutions, you will have the opportunity to work with a vast amount of structured and unstructured data including claims, membership, physician demographics, medical records and others to begin to solve some of the most pressing healthcare issues of our time. This position will also have the opportunity to work directly with a team of healthcare professionals including analysts, clinicians, coding specialists, auditors and innovators to set aggressive goals and execute on them with the team. This is for an ambitious technologist, with the flexibility and personal drive to succeed in a dynamic environment where they are judged based on their direct impact to business outcomes.



Responsibilities

    Understand business needs and identify potential use cases in more than one business unit. Work with external partners to develop a minimal viable product to meet those needs while resolving any issues that may arise.
  • Consistently collaborate with fellow data scientists, data engineers and frequently interact with business partners, project managers, cross-functional teams, key stakeholders, and other domains to build analytics capabilities and drive business value.
  • Continuously work to be updated on the latest developments in AI and the healthcare industry. Work with key stakeholders both within R&D and Operations, along with product management to assess the potential value and risks associated with business problems that have the potential to be solved using machine learning and AI techniques.
  • Learn new technologies and apply them to the problem space.
  • Peer review software changes by other developers.
  • Provide technical guidance to the team on development.
  • Document the specifications, design, features, and operation of applications prior to production rollout.
  • Achieve organizational and individual goals as identified in performance reviews and goal setting exercises.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience). Masters is a plus.
  • 1-2 years experience and strong foundation in at least one programming language preferably Python.
  • 1-2 years experience in working in Big Data environments.
  • 1-2 years experience working with SQL and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server).
  • Basic understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software development fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON, and basic service-to-service communication.
  • Exposure to Git and collaborative development workflows.

GenAI & AI Foundations

  • Introductory understanding of Generative AI concepts, including: Large Language Models (LLMs), Prompt engineering basics, Model inference and API-based model consumption.
  • Familiarity with AI frameworks or platforms (e.g., OpenAI APIs, Hugging Face, LangChain, or similar).
  • Awareness of AI agents concepts such as: Tool calling, Task orchestration, Multi-step reasoning workflows

Data & Healthcare Exposure

  • Experience working with structured datasets, including data validation and transformation.
  • Basic understanding of healthcare data concepts, such as claims data, clinical data, or member/provider data (academic or internship project-based exposure acceptable).
  • Awareness of data privacy and security principles (e.g., HIPAA concepts, least-privilege access).
  • Ability to follow data governance and compliance guidelines when handling sensitive data.

Cognitive / Mental Requirements

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize projects to meet scheduled deadlines and tight turnaround times.
  • Ability to work well independently or in a team environment.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • No adverse environmental conditions expected.
  • Must be able to provide a dedicated, secure work area.
  • Must be able to provide high-speed internet access / connectivity and office setup and maintenance.

Pay Transparency:

Base compensation ranges from $75,000.00 to $95,000.00. Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs.
