ATI is currently seeking an Ultrasonic Metallographer for our lab department in our Monroe, NC facility. This role is a crucial step as it finds defects in the material by ultrasonic scanning and metallographic evaluation. Once the defect in the material is classified, information is gathered and then sent to our engineers for additional evaluation.

In this role, you will be responsible for performing the ultrasonic C scan, and metallographic evaluation to characterize indications located by ultrasonic inspections. You will coordinate and maintain the results database for analytical purposes and mount, polish, and etch per lab instructions. Finally, you will be using a microscope to evaluate the grain structure.

This is a night shift position working on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule. You will work 2 days, have 2 days off, work 3 days; then 2 days off, work 2 days, then have 3 days off. Training will take place from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Additional Responsibilities:



  • Become certified as a Level II Ultrasonic C-scan technician
  • Prepare C-scan samples utilizing a saw and/or lathe
  • Schedule and prioritize samples
  • Troubleshoot problems
  • Engage in activities that promote growth in knowledge necessary to perform essential tasks
  • Assist in routine Laboratory operations and/or perform other work as directed
  • Perform normal mechanical servicing and minor repairs of equipment
  • Maintain work areas in a clean orderly condition

Preferred Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or GE
  • At least one (1) year of manufacturing experience
  • Previous experience in quality assurance is a plus
  • Previous experience in ultrasonic experience is a plus


Skills:



  • Basic math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to read a caliper and tape measure
  • Ability to read and follow written procedures
  • Required to pass In-dept vision screening
  • Pass Sonic Assessment
