Summary of Position: Ferris State University seeks a diverse group of outstanding applicants for a full-time, 9 month, tenure track Assistant Professor - Sales and Marketing position. The College of Business is seeking a qualified individual to teach a selection of undergraduate and graduate courses in sales. The ideal candidate should be able to teach various sales-related courses (e.g., Professional Selling, Sales Management, and Advanced Selling). The candidate will participate in developing and improving curriculum and curriculum delivery, assessment of student learning, service work including student engagement activities and committees, and engage in scholarly activities and professional development aligned with current and emergent programmatic needs. The candidate will assist in growing and expanding the sales program. Faculty members have professional responsibilities, including advising students, participating in committees, keeping regularly posted office hours, professional development, and participating in traditional functions with academic significance. Candidates are expected to foster a meaningful learning experience for our students, faculty are expected to be student-oriented, advise, and integrate current technology into the learning environment. Additionally, faculty will participate in collaborative efforts to foster curricular efforts, participate in assessment of student learning, and further develop programmatic enhancement. Specifically, we expect the candidate to be willing to engage students outside the classroom, support and expand our existing academic initiatives, and be willing to mentor students beyond a traditional academic advising role. In support of teaching, candidates will engage in scholarly/professional activities and participate in department, college, and university committees. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses or approved FSU sites. Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus and/or online. The candidate selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris site.

The anticipated start date of this position is August 2026 at the earliest and January 2027 at the latest.

Required Education: A master's in business with a marketing concentration or a related master's degree with 18 graduate credit hours in marketing are required.
Required Work Experience: Business-to-business sales experience is required.

Candidates with experience teaching Sales at the college level and the ability to employ multiple teaching modalities, such as face-to-face, online, and blended strategies, to enhance student engagement and understanding are highly desirable.

Candidates must be committed to continuous improvement in teaching and active participation in scholarly and professional development activities to adapt to changing industry needs.

Candidates must demonstrate effective communication skills and personal initiative while working both independently and collaboratively.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: A PhD or DBA in Marketing, emphasizing sales or a similar field, is desirable but not mandatory. If the doctorate is in a related area, 18 graduate hours in marketing are required.

Alternate modality college-level teaching experience (e.g., hy-flex, online, mixed delivery).

Industry experience in marketing or closely related field.

Practical industry experience in business-to-business sales is desirable.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Teach full-time during the 9-month academic year. Teach four courses per semester. Teach and coordinate elective courses in areas of expertise. The course topics will be assigned based on the credentials to teach them. The courses the sales faculty member may be asked to teach may be assigned but not limited to Professional Selling, Sales Management, and Advanced Selling.

Recruitment of students (including Dawg Days, Admitted Student Days, visits to high schools or career tech centers, and other University-outreach events) will occur throughout the academic year and include some Saturdays.

Serve on program committees and represent the program(s) on College and University committees.

Collaborate with faculty on curriculum development, assessment, and quality assurance of assigned coursework.

Collaborate in design and implementation of additional undergraduate and graduate degrees

Maintain records and conduct assessments, advising, and all other administrative features of the position in accordance with policies and procedures developed by the university, college, school, department, and/or program.

Candidate is expected to teach at both the Big Rapids and Grand Rapids campuses.

Employs different teaching methods as appropriate (e.g., face-to-face, online, and blended strategies).

Committed to enhancing teaching and engaging in scholarly and professional development activities to accommodate changing market needs.

Perform duties in accordance with established University policies.

Act as liaison between the program and professional organizations through active, individual involvement and, potentially as the program-appointed representative

Enthusiastically support student success through active involvement with individual students, student organizations, and student competitions, both within and outside of the classroom.

Remain current in the profession.

The position reports to the Department Chair or Director and the Dean.

Works independently and collaboratively with effective communication and listening skills.

A willingness to work with the Sales and/or Marketing Registered Student Organizations (RSOs).

Faculty members also have professional responsibilities, which may include advising students, orientation, and registering students, participation in university committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions that have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an online environment.

Skills and Abilities: Collegiality and teamwork are essential for this position.

Demonstrated successful experience working directly with people from diverse backgrounds, including cultural, educational, socioeconomic and life experiences.

The required skills will differ depending on the specific course assignments. For certain undergraduate Sales and Marketing courses, proficiency in tools such as SAP, SPSS, Google Analytics, and others is necessary. For other potential teaching opportunities, either graduate-level coursework in these fields or relevant experience is essential.
