The Division of Otology, Neurotology, and Skull Base Surgerywithin the Department of Otolaryngology Head amp; Neck Surgery seeks a highly qualifiedNeurotologist Surgeon-Scientist. We are recruiting an academic clinician with advanced training inboth pediatric and adult neurotology, substantial expertise inlateral skull-base surgery, and a demonstrated commitment to a career integratingclinical excellence, education, and impactful scientific discovery. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative, well-resourced academic environment and play a meaningful role in advancing the departments clinical, research, and educational missions.Applicants with research or clinical interests in Menieres disease are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Neurotologist provides comprehensive, high-quality care for adult and pediatric patients with complex otologic and neurotologic disorders. Clinical responsibilities include the evaluation and management of hearing loss, chronic ear disease, otologic trauma, vestibular disorders, cochlear implantation, and osseointegrated hearing solutions. The role requires advanced expertise in complex lateral skull base surgery, utilizing middle fossa, retrosigmoid, and translabyrinthine approaches, with a focus on the management of vestibular schwannomas, cerebrospinal fluid leaks, temporal bone tumors, and related skull base pathologies.

In addition to clinical excellence, the Neurotologist is expected to develop and sustain an externally funded research program as a surgeon-scientist, contributing to translational and collaborative research aligned with departmental and institutional priorities. The position plays a vital role in the academic mission by actively participating in teaching and mentoring residents, fellows, medical students, and research trainees. The Neurotologist also engages in interdisciplinary collaboration across the medical center, partnering with neurosurgery, oncology, audiology, engineering, and basic science investigators. Scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed publications, national presentations, and service within professional societies, supporting the advancement of the field and the institutions academic reputation.

Required Qualifications

  • MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent)
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited OtolaryngologyHead amp; Neck Surgery residency.
  • Completion of a fellowship in neurotology with formal training in both pediatric and adult populations.
  • Demonstrated advanced training and proficiency in lateral skull base surgery, including middle fossa, retrosigmoid, and translabyrinthine approaches.
  • Strong record of research productivity and a clear commitment to a long-term career as a surgeon-scientist (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, funding history, research awards, or other significant scientific contributions).
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Ohio.
  • Qualify for academic appointment Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience

Additional Consideration
Additional consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate a strong record of independent or collaborative research funding, or clear potential for future external funding, including a K-award or equivalent career development trajectory. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience in team science and interdisciplinary academic research, as well as a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, mentorship, and academic leadership. Applicants with clinical or research interests aligned with vestibular disorders, including Menieres disease, are particularly encouraged to apply.

Faculty Defined
Clinical faculty (regardless of rank)
- Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical, and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), doctorate (PhD) orother terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and areappointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their primary careerfocus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, which may also include teaching and/or research.

Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank)- Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, orprofessor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate(PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary careerfocus centers on research, service, and teaching.Tenure-track faculty with MD, DO, or MD/PhD degrees may also beinvolved in clinical care.

Research Faculty (regardless of rank)- Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associateprofessor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate(PhD) or other terminal degree inthe relevant field of study.Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and areappointed for terms ofone to five years. Their principal careerfocus is research.
