Primary Function

Reporting to the Director of Platform Electronics, the Electronics Lab Manager will manage the activities and resources of the Electronics Lab within the Platform Electronics group to ensure support is provided to meet the department and company goals. The Electronics Lab Manager will coordinate with Platform Electronics staff and other internal customers to develop test plans for electronic controls, communications devices and other electronic components. The incumbent will implement policies and procedures to maintain product compliance.

Responsibilities
  1. Ensure department's compliance with regulatory requirements and agencies.
  2. Review and report on all projects on a weekly and monthly basis.
  3. Maintain appropriate levels of accreditation and scope as defined by management; enhancement, and expansion of the laboratory scope of accreditation (ISO/IEC 17025 Quality System).
  4. Lead laboratory audits.
  5. Maintain efficient, neat and presentable facilities.
  6. Provide schedules and timely responses to engineering teams.
  7. Coordinate testing with outside labs as needed.
  8. Participate on standards working groups.
  9. Evaluate and propose opportunities within Platform Electronics to improve efficiency and accuracy of the services being provided to all affected parties and set the necessary goals to achieve these objectives.
  10. Assist Quality Assurance with technical evaluations from field returns/problems.
  11. Oversee equipment calibration, equipment repair and equipment sourcing efforts.
  12. Supervise and manage lab technicians effectively and efficiently to achieve lab objectives and goals.
  13. Supervise both long and short-term electronics projects, codes/standards, and general technical support to electronics engineers.
  14. Coordinate lab resource needs with Project Managers to assure that resources are being planned to accomplish the goals needed by the team.
  15. Develop work schedules by assessing priorities, workload, and available resources.
  16. Supervise assigned team staff members, and provide guidance and direction where needed in matters of discipline.
  17. Ensure that direct reports are performing in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
  18. Provide training and empower the team.
  19. Coach, mentor, and motivate Electronics Lab staff.
  20. Create and maintain accurate and efficient procedures.
  21. Assure team is following procedures.
  22. Perform time sheet review and release for direct reports.
  23. Responsibilities include assisting with interviewing potential staff candidates for purposes of hiring, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  24. Travel as needed to review field installations, attend meetings, visit trade shows, etc.
  25. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of safety agency experience
  • 2+ years of technical supervisory experience
  • Deep understanding of EMC test standards and radio product test standards, as well as prior experience performing EMC testing on such items.
  • First-hand experience with and knowledge of electronic product design.
  • Experience interfacing with certification and accreditation bodies, including prior experience as a contributor to EMC standard organizations.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent analytical, communication, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in sharing knowledge and technically mentoring less-experienced co-workers.
  • Broad enough expertise to include familiarity with the global scope of EMC and radio product test standards and practices
  • First-hand experience testing a wide range of DUTs for radiated emissions / immunity (RE/RI), conducted emissions / immunity (CE/CI), transient, and RF testing
  • EMC product test failure analysis tools and techniques.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must demonstrate excellent leadership skills and the ability to lead project work in a team environment.
Education
Baccalaureate
Master's Degree in Related Field or Engineering
