| Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit |
The Department of Media Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences focuses on the creative production and critical consumption of a range of moving-image media. The faculty is composed of award-winning artists, scholars, and practitioners. The Department is housed in the Brown Building and in the Carmichael Center. Originally constructed to serve the University of North Carolina public broadcasting system, the Carmichael Center now holds the Department's soundstage, screening room, production classrooms, editing lab, audio recording studio, and location production equipment inventory. The Department enhances the curriculum with opportunities to learn outside of the traditional classroom setting and participate in a variety of media productions. These include the Department's internship program, registered student organizations for film production, and its client-based production clinic. |
| Position Summary |
The Department of Media Studies at
UNC Greensboro invites applications for a one-year position as Media Production Instructor and Equipment Manager, effective August 1, 2026, that will have the possibility of renewal.
We are seeking a dynamic, imaginative individual to collaborate closely with the department head to manage this equipment checkout space to provide creatively-focused, technical, and production instruction to students. The position also includes teaching two undergraduate media production courses per semester.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepares and oversees the equipment checkout for daily use by faculty, students, and instructors.
- Provides technical instruction and assistance to students checking out equipment. In collaboration with student workers, create and maintain supporting equipment checkout materials, including videos and guides to instruct students on the proper use of equipment.
- Participates as a member of the department technology committee in support of new equipment and software acquisition. Performs basic repairs and maintenance of production equipment and perform computer updates in collaboration with the Media Studies Department Technology Coordinator as needed.
- Coordinates the hiring of student workers to work in the equipment checkout. Recruits, trains, supervises, and schedules student workers to ensure they understand and implement best practices for the use and lending of departmental equipment.
- Teaches two foundational undergraduate media production courses per semester.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Media Production or a related discipline.
- College teaching experience.
- Experience working or administering in a college or university lending capacity, or demonstrable ability to supervise and mentor students in a lending environment.
- Expertise with Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g., After Effects, Audition, Premiere) along with other related software (e.g., DaVinci Resolve) and media production equipment.

- Experience helping first-generation, diverse, and/or non-traditional student populations find their creative voice and managing experiential "field" learning.
- Demonstrated commitment to contribute to the development of new models for technical instruction that emphasize hands-on learning and peer-to-peer collaboration.
- Familiar with inventory and library database best practices.
