What to Expect
Tesla's Vehicle Power Electronics group is looking for a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join the Drive Inverter design team and drive our power electronics designs to the physical limits. This role requires a strong technical background, a critical-thinking mindset, a passion to launch new technologies, and demonstrated ability to execute quickly and effectively.

What You'll Do
  • Design and 3D modeling of mechanical packaged traction inverter components and assemblies
  • Mechanical design analysis including thermal, CFD, structural, design for assembly, and design for test
  • Solve electronics packaging issues including: electricalisolation, sealing,thermal management, interconnection, shock and vibration management, electromagnetic interference (EMI), RF communications, etc.
  • Develop engineering test plans for designs
  • Create drawing packages and manufacturing instructions for parts and assemblies
  • Assist in engineering prototype builds and component fabrication
  • Collaborate with other mechanical, systems, electrical, digital control, manufacturing, reliability, test engineers, and supply chain team members to take designs from a clean sheet through prototypes and into mass production

What You'll Bring
  • Masters's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Deep understanding of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals (heat transfer, fluids, statics, dynamics, structural design)
  • Experience designing and building mechanical assemblies. Experience with high volume manufacturing processes such as injection molding, stamping, casting, etc. Knowledge of design for reliability and design for manufacturability concepts
  • Knowledge of material science for in electronics packaging materials (metals, insulators, plastics, connectors, gaskets, thermal interface materials, potting, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of high-voltage mechanical design and electrical design fundamentals
  • Proficiency using 3D mechanical design tools (e.g. CATIA, Pro-E, NX)
  • Experience with PLM systems, engineering changes, deviations, BOM structuring, etc.
  • Knowledge of environmental, reliability, safety, and industry standard requirements for automotive, industrialor residential products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment

    Expected Compensation
    $112,000 - $210,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
