Job Overview

The Division Director, Merchandise Execution trains and develops store talent to elevated standards and capabilities, ensuring consistent merchandise execution across the division. The role drives improvements to merchandise placement and execution processes to strengthen performance across teams.

As the subject matter expert in merchandise execution, the Division Director actively drives sales by elevating execution through training, coaching, and collaboration with in-store leaders, including Style Merchandise Managers. The role also influences central, division, store, and vendor partners to address division-specific execution needs.

The Division Director serves as a knowledgeable and strategic business partner to Store Managers and Style Merchandise Managers, ensuring disciplined and consistent execution of company merchandise strategies. The role identifies division- and store-level sales opportunities, proactively develops action plans, and drives execution to deliver measurable results.

What You Will Do



  • Train and coach Merchandising Teams on merchandise execution, building skills and capability through in-store development of key colleagues and leaders.
  • Identify opportunities to elevate execution across key categories and initiatives; share best practices and identify opportunities to scale successful approaches.
  • Identify and activate division-level sales opportunities tied to key timeframes (e.g., Homecoming, early BTS, Derby, Festivals). Develop proactive action plans to ensure assortments and selling strategies are in place to drive incremental sales.
  • Provide regular feedback and insights from stores on Visual Merchandise Direction (VMD) and execution guide needs; align recommendations with available assets and resources.
  • Lead merchandise execution strategy at the division level, identifying opportunities and recommending corrective actions to stores to improve execution and performance.
  • Prepare for, participate in, and follow up on store visits to assess execution, reinforce priorities, and drive improvement.
  • Monitor competitive landscape by observing and evaluating competitor execution; communicate insights and opportunities to regional and divisional leadership.
  • Partner with vendors to educate Store Teams and Sales Colleagues on product features, benefits, and effective selling techniques.
  • Support the onboarding and development of new Style Merchandise Managers.
  • Align stores to promotional events tied to the marketing calendar by publishing and reinforcing national execution checklists.
  • Communicate clear, concise priorities, strategies, and direction to division stores through both formal and informal channels.
  • Establish a consistent communication cadence with Regional Merchandise Directors and Senior Directors; leverage the MIC role to support national vision and cascade updates, brand launches, product knowledge, and selling initiatives for focus businesses.
  • Build collaborative relationships with local vendor partners, clearly communicating priorities and business needs.
  • Demonstrate strong organization and attention to detail by maintaining efficient systems and processes.
  • Apply strong project, process, and organizational skills to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and deliver high-quality results.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.

Merchandise Execution Expertise - Deep knowledge of merchandise placement, execution standards, and visual merchandising, with the ability to translate company strategies into consistent, high-quality execution across a division.

Sales & Performance Orientation - Proven ability to identify and activate division- and store-level sales opportunities, develop proactive action plans, and drive execution that delivers measurable business results.

Strategic Business Partnership - Ability to serve as a trusted, knowledgeable partner to Store Managers and Style Merchandise Managers, influencing decisions and ensuring disciplined implementation of company merchandise strategies.

Category & Seasonal Planning - Skill in identifying opportunities across key categories and time-bound initiatives (e.g., Homecoming, BTS, seasonal events), aligning assortments and selling strategies to maximize impact.

Cross-Functional & Vendor Collaboration - Ability to influence and collaborate with central, regional, store, and vendor partners to align priorities, support execution needs, and scale best practices.

Communication & Influence - Strong ability to communicate clear, concise priorities and direction through both formal and informal channels, adapting messaging for diverse audiences.

Field Leadership & Observation Skills - Effective in-store presence, with the ability to assess execution, provide actionable feedback, reinforce standards, and drive improvement through store visits.

Competitive & Customer Insight - Ability to evaluate competitive execution, understand customer behavior, and translate insights into actionable recommendations for stores and leadership.

Project & Process Management - Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and executional excellence.

Operational Agility & Sense of Urgency - Ability to prioritize effectively, act with urgency in a fast-paced retail environment, and adapt quickly to changing business needs.

Relationship Building & Inclusive Leadership - Ability to build authentic, respectful relationships with colleagues, partners, and vendors, fostering an inclusive environment that supports collaboration and performance.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 5+ years of retail management experience.
  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, remaining in a stationary position, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves remaining in a stationary position for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs. Schedule includes one office days and four days in the field.
