Job Description - IT Systems Engineer/IT Systems Engineer Senior

Position Description

Responsible for the architecture, design, engineering, planning, testing, implementation, and administration of the Information Technology (IT) operating systems and enterprise storage systems infrastructure at UNS. Participates in a team environment that provides cost-effective IT systems, enterprise storage, and IT infrastructure and security software services to the various business units. Works closely with other areas to insure optimum reliability and cohesiveness.

Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Engineer, architect, recommend, implement, and support IT systems for critical utility operational networks, including Energy Management System, Physical Security, and remote metering. Provide IT systems and storage engineering and architecture support for generation and substations networks.
  • Engineer, architect, recommend, implement, and support IT systems and storage technologies for UNS corporate network. See Appendix A for Specific Technologies.
  • Architect, recommend, design, implement, and support IT infrastructure and mobile infrastructure application technologies for UNS corporate network and critical operational networks, including Energy Management System, Physical Security, Generation and Engineering/Substations networks. See Appendix A for specific technologies.
  • Develop processes and tools to support implementation, maintenance, security, and production scripting and programming of IT systems and infrastructure.
  • Engineer, implement, and maintain IT systems and storage solutions, and IT infrastructure and security software solutions, for UNS and its subsidiaries with an emphasis on integration between companies and flexible solutions that are cost-effective and scalable.
  • Documents physical and logical maps of the IT systems and storage infrastructure as well as defines and follows standards and procedures in relation to the IT systems and storage infrastructure, their constituent devices and network and software interfaces.
  • Ensures security is maintained on the IT operating systems and middle tier platforms by utilizing security best practices and working with IS Security to implement, configure, and troubleshoot security systems such as LDAP directory services, security information and event management, patch assessment and management, anti-malware, change detection, and vulnerability management and penetration. Ensures IT systems are engineered and maintained per security regulations and internal computing controls.
  • Works with internal and external auditors to implement relevant regulatory controls including NERC CIP and Sarbanes-Oxley on IT operating systems and middle tier platforms. Remediates compliance issues based on periodic vulnerability assessment and internal audit reports.
  • Ensures change control processes are followed and service levels affected by those changes are maintained.
  • Leads or participates in IT projects as needed to provide network or telephony expertise, guidance, or training.
  • Measures performance of IT systems and storage infrastructure, and IT infrastructure and security software, and takes appropriate actions to ensure that performance meets client needs and applicable service level agreements.
  • Works with internal and external project managers and clients as necessary to develop technical and business requirements, design IT systems and storage solutions, and IT infrastructure and security software, prepare capital and expense budget estimates related to required IT systems infrastructure, and complete projects and efforts on time.
  • Works with IT Value-Added Resellers (VARs) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to procure and maintain server and storage hardware, and IT infrastructure and security software.
  • Manages data backup and data restoration services for corporate and industrial control networks, including developing and testing disaster recovery plans, processes and procedures.
  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)
Engineer

Description:

  • Assist higher level engineers with support tasks.
  • Serves as Subject Matter Expert for multiples technologies.
  • Manages projects and efforts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills are required plus a willingness to learn in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Assists more experienced engineers on projects and deals with day to day support.
  • Experience leading IT systems engineering projects with emphasis on project management methodologies.
  • Experience in completing projects and providing strategic direction on how the IT systems infrastructure should evolve.
  • Requires Industry certifications (e.g. MCITP, OCA, RHCSA, VCP, RHCSA, MCTS) or equivalent experience of 3-5 years of IT systems engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Experience in creating budgets for projects and maintains accountability for the actual dollars charged to that budget.
  • One or more years IT systems engineering experience in a large (500+ client) enterprise or industrial control environment.

Senior Engineer
Description:

  • Assist lower level engineers with support tasks. Serves as Subject Matter Expert for multiples technologies. Manages projects and efforts. Has high degree of technical ability and trust. Engineers complex systems and integrates multiple phases of projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills are required plus a willingness to learn in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Assists supervisor on projects and deals with day to day support.
  • Experience leading IT systems engineering projects with emphasis on project management methodologies.
  • Strong ability to document engineering designs in Microsoft Visio.
  • Experience in creating budgets for projects and maintains accountability for the actual dollars charged to that budget.
  • Experience in providing strategic direction on how the IT systems infrastructure is engineered to meet business needs.
  • One or more years of IT systems engineering experience in a large (500+ clients) enterprise or industrial control environment.
  • Meets all minimum qualifications for IT Systems Engineer.
  • Requires high-level industry certifications (e.g. MCITP, OCA, RHCSA, VCP) and equivalent experience of 5-8 years of IT systems engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred qualifications of Engineer.
  • Experience with engineering solutions in support of corporate disaster recovery and business continuity.
  • Higher-level industry certification (e.g. MCSE, OCE/OCP, RHCE)
  • Four or more years IT systems engineering experience in a large (500+ clients) enterprise or industrial control environment.

Pay Rate: Salary determined based on candidates experience and qualifications.
