The Seattle office of Morgan Lewis seeks to hire a 1L IP-Technology Fellow for our 2026 and 2027 Summer Associate Programs.

With more than 250 lawyers and professionals, Morgan Lewis boasts one of the largest and most comprehensive intellectual property (IP) practices of any full-service law firm worldwide. The Morgan Lewis 1L IP Fellowship is designed to cultivate outstanding law students into the next generation of Morgan Lewis IP lawyers by offering an immersive, two-summer experience that provides meaningful insight into our practice and culture.


Fellowship recipients will receive a 2L summer associate position, contingent upon successful completion of your 1L summer and strong academic performance; a $25,000 bonus conditioned upon the successful completion of the 2L summer and acceptance of an entry-level associate position in the IP practice; reimbursement of expenses associated with taking and successfully passing the patent bar exam prior to joining the firm as an entry-level associate; and a $5,000 bonus conditioned upon successfully passing the patent bar exam prior to joining the firm as an entry-level associate.

Fellowship applicants must meet the following criteria:
* Be enrolled full-time in an ABA-accredited law school with an anticipated graduation date of 2028.
* Preferable to have a technology or life sciences background. Preferred degrees (B.S., M.S., or Ph.D.) in electrical engineering, computer science, or physics, or an advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in life sciences.
* Have outstanding leadership skills, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to exceptional client service.
* Be genuinely interested in a career with Morgan Lewis's IP practice.
* Be a US citizen or otherwise authorized to work in the United States.

Process:
Interested students should submit the following in support of their candidacy: a cover letter, resume, law school and undergraduate transcripts (unofficial transcripts are accepted), and a writing sample. If your law school transcript is not available at the time of your application, we ask that you submit your first semester transcript to our application portal and/or to Sandra Rahimpour (IP Recruiting Manager) as soon as you receive it.

For positions in Washington State, the salary wage range for this job posting is as follows:

  • Summer Associate: $4,326 weekly salary

The base salary wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. Final salary wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position will also include eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus. Subject to the terms and conditions of the firm's policy, applicants who receive an offer immediately following the completion of a judicial clerkship will be eligible for a clerkship bonus. Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans and policies then in effect, eligible employees may enroll in: a 401(k) plan, as well as participate in Company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, life, disability, accidental death and dismemberment, business travel accident insurance plans, and health savings and flexible spending accounts for the employee and the employee's eligible dependents. Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans and policies then in effect, eligible employees may utilize the Employee Assistance Program, Work/Life Services, HealthAdvocate, Bright Horizons Back-Up Child Care, and WageWorks Commuter Benefits for the employee and the employee's eligible dependents. Employees will also receive: 9 paid holidays per calendar year, 2 personal days per year, up to 10 days of paid sick leave per year, and up to 20 days of vacation per year. Eligible employees may also take up to five days off for bereavement leave, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave per year and up to 10 weeks of paid pregnancy disability leave per pregnancy. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the firm reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, firm or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
