Job Posting Title: Mental Health Therapist ---- Hiring Department: Department of Psychiatry ---- Position Open To: All Applicants ---- Weekly Scheduled Hours: 40 ---- FLSA Status: Exempt ---- Earliest Start Date: Immediately ---- Position Duration: Expected to Continue Until Jul 30, 2026 ---- Location: AUSTIN, TX ---- Job Details: General Notes Dell Medical School is seeking a Mental Health Therapist licensed as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Psychologist (LP), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) to join the Bipolar Disorder Center as part of an interdisciplinary, team-based program that provides care for individuals with bipolar disorder at UT Health Austin and conducts research at Dell Medical School. The position will join our growing multi-disciplinary team to conduct behavioral and mental health assessments, treatment planning, brief interventions, evidence-based psychotherapy, coordination of care, interdisciplinary team consultation as needed, and research-related activities in several studies funded by NIH, foundations, and industry partners. Clinical and research activities are expected to be conducted ethically and professionally. This position is temporary through July 30, 2026, with renewal contingent upon funding availability, work performance, and progress toward project goals. Funding is expected to continue. Remote arrangements require reliable internet access and a workspace free from distractions; a flexible work agreement will be completed upon offer. Purpose The Mental Health Therapist provides assessment, triage and treatment to individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder who may also have co-occurring substance use disorders, other co-morbid psychiatric disorders and/or chronic health conditions using a time-limited, evidence-based approach. This position provides direct services, functions as community liaison and as an interdisciplinary team member. Provides clinical leadership to other staff and functions to provide supervision to learners, which may be assigned to unit with consideration to current caseload. Responsibilities Work in partnership with the care team of the Bipolar Disorder Center to deliver patient-centered care for individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder and other psychiatric conditions. Conduct diagnostic evaluations and provide assessment of strengths, preferences, functional impairments and symptoms of psychiatric and/or co-occurring disorder(s) at regular intervals to ensure optimal and personalized services. Deliver therapeutic evidence-based and best practice interventions including, but not limited to, skills training through psychoeducation and patient education strategies; individual, family and group services; and crisis services with linkages to crisis resources as needed. Completes accurate, timely documentation Additional duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Masters-level behavioral health clinicians or higher, able to bill for clinical services and hold at a minimum one of the following licenses granted by the State of Texas: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Psychologist (LP), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) Have a minimum of three (3) years of post-degree clinical experience Demonstrate the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with various other health care professionals (i.e., physicians, psychologists, social workers, care coordinators) Maintain a positive, compassionate, and professional attitude when engaging with patients and their family members Possess excellent interpersonal skills; written and oral communication skills; organizational, planning, follow-up/follow-through, and time management skills Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-provider practice environment Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate Preferred Qualifications Three (3) years of post-degree clinical experience preferably in direct mental health practice Have experience delivering care as a member of an interdisciplinary team Have a working knowledge of and/or experience and certification with evidence-based therapies (such as CBT, DBT, MI, CBT-I, IPSRT or other), bipolar disorder patients, and value-based healthcare delivery Bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly preferred Have experience designing and managing the REDCap database Experience with clinical trials Salary Range $68,000+ depending on qualifications Working Conditions May work around standard office conditions Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Climbing of stairs Climbing of ladders Occasional weekend, overtime, and evening work to meet deadlines This position is 100% on campus and requires reporting to the assigned worksite during the scheduled work week.
